LAKE GEORGE -- Alfred E. Clear, 83, of Rockland Drive, Lake George, passed away after a short illness Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at his home.
Born in Glens Falls on June 15, 1928, he was the beloved son of the late Maurice and Pearl (Berger) Clear.
Al graduated from Hudson Falls High School, Class of 1945.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, being honorably discharged Aug. 1, 1946. He worked for the New York Telephone Co., from which he retired after 42 years of dedicated service.
In his retirement, aside from cheering the Yankees and New York Giants, Al enjoyed traveling the country, especially to visit his grandchildren.
He was particularly proud of playing football with both the Green Jackets and the Commodores. Al was a life member of Council No. 194 of the Knights of Columbus and member of Msgr. Curtin Assembly, serving as an officer in both organizations.
Besides his parents, Al was predeceased by his siblings, Frances Clear and Richard Clear.
He is survived by his loving wife, Pauline Clear; his loving children, Carol Berry (Glenn Rode), Kathryn Shaw, Daniel (Kathleen) Clear, and Timothy (Alesia) Clear; his step-children, Robin Bennett (Don Brown), Michelle (Gerald) Dangelico, Maxine Desourdy (Bernard Skelley), Richard (Debra) Bennett, and Michael Bennett (Joseph Sanderson); devoted siblings, including Patricia John, June (Thomas) McGrath, Peter (Karen) Clear and sister-in-law, Mabel Clear. He also leaves behind his nine grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
The family would especially like to thank High Peaks Hospice for its care and concern for Al as well as his family during his illness.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 12, at Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Friday, April 13, at the Church of Our Lady of the Annunciation, Aviation Road, Queensbury, with the Rev. Joseph Busch officiating.
Burial, with military honors, will follow at Union Cemetery, Fort Edward.
