QUEENSBURY – Alfred John Lanfear, 96, of Birch Lane, Queensbury, passed away Saturday, July 12, 2014 at The Stanton Nursing Home after living a full and vibrant life.
On August 31, 1917, in Stony Creek, Alfred was born to John E. and Ethel May (Dow) Lanfear.
A graduate of Glens Falls High School, Alfred attended Bucknell University, in Lewisburg, where he received a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Civil Engineering.
During WWII as part of the 91st Bomb Group, Alfred served as an Intelligence Staff Officer. He was honorably discharged from the Army Air Corps after receiving a European Theater of Operations Ribbon and six Bronze Service Stars for his dedicated service.
On June 22, 1945 Alfred married the love of his life, Teresa Floyd, in Queensbury.
Some of Alfred's enjoyments, which he shared for 69 years with Teresa, included hunting, fishing and flying their own Piper plane throughout the eastern U.S. He shared one of his father's favorite hobbies which was boat building. Alfred refinished his father's last guide boat and donated it to the Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake.
As a surveyor, Alfred was instrumental in establishing the existing boundaries between Washington and Warren County. Alfred worked extensively throughout the Adirondacks providing much of the surveying for property boundaries, building dams and infrastructure.
In addition to his parents, Alfred was predeceased by his sister, Violet Weeden.
Alfred is survived by his loving wife, Teresa Lanfear, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, July 17 from 11 to 12 p.m. at Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette Street, Queensbury.
A memorial service will immediately follow at 12 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Cheryl Colt officiating.
Burial will follow at Bay Street Cemetery, Glens Falls.
Donations may be made, in loving memory of Alfred, to a charity of your choice.
