Obituary

Andrew (Andy) Cartier, 89 of Fort Ann passed away peacefully on Monday May 13th, 2024. He was surrounded by his family; they are comforted knowing he will be reunited with Ruth.

Born on January 25, 1935 in Willsboro, NY, he was the eldest of eight children of the late Beatrice and Andrew Cartier.

Andy served in the U.S. Army as a specialist 4th class from August 13, 1957 – August 12, 1959. Andy married Ruth (Trombley) Cartier on October 4, 1959 at South Granville Presbyterian Church.

Andy worked as a mechanic at Fort Ann Sales and Northway Equipment before owning and operating the family farm for 35 years with his brother Gary Cartier.

Andy enjoyed being outside in his garage, fixing tractors and tinkering with appliances as well as riding around on his "buggy" visiting with neighbors. Andy and Ruth both enjoyed snowmobiling with their family and friends. Throughout the years, Andy was always helping local farmers repair their tractors and equipment, getting the nickname "Handy Andy".

Andy is survived by his two children, Andrew Jeffrey "Jeff" Cartier (Jen Thomas) and Robin Corbin (Anthony Catone); grandchildren, Andrea (Nathaniel) Yando, Andrew Jeffrey Cartier Jr. (Kristen), and Katelyn (Kevin) Fischer; great grandchildren, Corbin and Cayson Yando, Ellasyn and Scarlett Fischer, and Emery and Reese Cartier; siblings, Regina Thomas, Gary Cartier, Donna Bell, and Gail Tello.

Andy was predeceased by his infant son, Jeffrey Andrew Cartier; his wife of 60 years, Ruth Cartier; sister, Marlene Scally, and Janice Barot; brother, Duane Cartier; and parents Beatrice and Andrew Cartier.
