PORTLANDVILLE – Andrew Jackson Simcox, 97, of Portlandville, NY, passed away at The Pines in Glens Falls, NY on Wed., July 22, 2015.
Andrew was born on Aug. 14, 1917 in Interior, South Dakota. He was the son of the late LeRoy and Mary Rose (Muehl) Simcox.
He attended school in Schenevus, NY and became part of the New York State National Guard, Company G. Later he joined the Army from 1940-1945 and served in the Hawaiian Islands, New Hebrides and Saipan. He was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant on May 17, 1945.
On October 8, 1945 Andrew married Anna Marie Miller at St. Mary's Church, Oneonta, NY. They were married 24 years.
Andrew was employed with The New York State Electric and Gas Company from 1945 to 1982.
He loved being with his children, grandchildren, friends, and working outside on his lawn and flowers. When the seasons opened he spent time fishing, hunting, and watching baseball.
He traveled a lot with his companion Julia Niedzialkowkski. They visited many states and countries together.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his wife Anna, his sons John and David, and his eight siblings.
He is survived by his sisters, Jennie Bergeron and Anne Blume, both of CA; his children, Donald Simcox of Portlandville, NY, Carl Simcox (Nadine) of Oklahoma, Virginia Vincent (Robert) of Idaho, Carolyn Salone (Jon) of Hudson Falls, NY; his daughter-in-law, Debbie Simcox (David) of Arkansas; grandchildren, Nancy Simcox, Brenda Lang, Scott Simcox, Danielle Vincent, Sean Vincent, Joshua Salone, Jason Simcox, Nathan Simcox; great grandchildren, Stasia Matyjas-Simcox, Max Lang, Jack Lang, Haley Lang, Devon Salone, Olivia Salone, Antonio Vincent, Gemma Hough.
Burial ceremony will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Oneonta, NY.
Memorial donations may be made to Milford American Legion Post No. 1566, W. Main St., Milford, NY 13807 or any charity of your choice.
