CHESTERTOWN -- Arnold William Monroe, 66, of Chestertown passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at Elderwood of North Creek Nursing Home due to complications from Alzheimer's.
Born September 2, 1952 he was the son of Richard and Cora Belle (Raymond) Monroe.
Arnold grew up in Brant Lake and went to school at Horicon Central, now the Brant Lake Town Hall.
He worked for over 30 years at Ridin-Hy Ranch in Warrensburg.
After many happy years together, Arnold married his beloved Margaret Tower on September 13, 2017.
Being a jokester was one of his best qualities, he enjoyed taking the time to make people laugh.
One of his greatest enjoyments was spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing as well as time spent at gatherings with friends and family.
In recent years, Arnold spent his time with his wife Margaret. They took long rides together and ended up sitting on Schroon River Road enjoying the sounds of the brook.
In addition to his parents Arnold was predeceased by his four brothers, James, Robert, Berton and Harry "Clifford" Monroe; as well as his two sisters Dorothy Bell and Theresa Monroe.
Those left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife, Margaret; his four loving daughters, Theresa, Bambi, Rhonda and Kerri Monroe; his grandchildren include Kelsey Cahill, Jordan Nieves, Natasha Sheppard, Landen McFarlane and Jaden Nieves; his great-granddaughter Penelope Preston; his step-children, Sherry Gay and Richard Chase; step-grandchildren Aubrey Smith, Edward Smith, Aaron Wilton, Corey Gay, Alexander Gay, Hunter Chase, Savannah Chase, Jackson Chase and Cody Walker; a sister, Aida Cleveland; brothers, Bernie and Donald Monroe; sisters-in-law Rose Rising, Carrie (Gerald) Prosser and Robin Hopkins; brothers-in-law David (Michelle) Tower, Ricky and Donald Tower; also several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will take place on Friday, July 26, 2019 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, NY 12804.
A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Aaron Spoonhour of First Baptist Church, Warrensburg, officiating.
A graveside ceremony will follow at Brant Lake Cemetery, Rt. 8, Brant Lake, N.Y.
The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to the staff, nurses and doctors at Elderwood of North Creek Nursing Home for their care over the last year.
