Lake George - Arthur Leonhardt, 86, of Lake George passed away Friday evening, Nov. 8, 2013 at his home, following a long illness.
Born Sept. 11, 1927 in Berkeley Heights, New Jersey he was the son of the late Otto and Augusta Leonhardt. Prior to living in Lake George Art worked for the Gill Hotels, Sea Watch Restaurant and owned and operated the Southern Restaurant in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. His entrepreneurships continued in Lake George with the Richshaw Chinese Restaurant, Prospect Mountain Diner, Westbrook Steak House and Lucille's and Art's Lobster Shack.
In addition to his love of cooking, Art enjoyed fishing, hunting, and boating.
A World War II Naval Veteran, an Honorary member of the Lake George Fire Dept. and a member of the Lake George Winter Carnival. Art will be remembered by some for his gruff yet enduring personality. He will also be remembered for his charitable work with the Annual Clam Bake Benefit Day for needy families of the Lake George area.
Survivors include his companion of 46 years Patricia Humphrey of Lake George, two Godsons Steven and Andrew Allen of Queensbury with their parents Elizabeth "Buffy" and Eddie Allen, special nephew, Thomas Tefft of Argyle, and many dear friends, especially Ron Pasquarelli of Delray Beach, Florida and his entire 'Diner' Family. Not to be omitted is Ceasar, his pet poodle.
Friends my call upon the family Monday, Nov. 11, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St. Queensbury.
A funeral service will take place Tuesday, Nov. 12, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Julie McPartlin, pastor of St. James Episcopal Church, officiating.
Burial will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery, Lake George.
