Obituary

QUEENSBURY --- Rev. Arthur Orlin Northrup Jr., 88, of 3D Par Place, Queensbury, passed away Saturday evening, May 26, 2012 at The Stanton Nursing and Rehabilitation Centre.

Born May 25, 1924 in Newfane, NY, he was the son of the late Rev. Arthur O. Northrup Sr. and Myrtle May (Woodbridge) Northrup.

Arthur married Esther May Alm Oct. 14, 1944 at Martha Mary Chapel (Ford Museum) in Dearborn, MI. She passed away Dec. 1996. He then married Evah Jane Howard Wilson June 22, 1997 at Mooers United Methodist Church in Mooers, NY.

Arthur enlisted in the United States Army in 1942, serving during World War II, being honorably discharged in 1946.

Arthur earned his Bachelor's Degree from Houghton College in 1950, and then worked for the school for four years as a Field Representative. He also attended NY Theological Seminary and Duke Divinity School. Arthur then taught in Argyle from 1954 to 1960, as well as serving in Wesleyan Methodist Churches during the same time.

Since 1960, Arthur preached in United Methodist Churches, officially retiring in June of 1990. Arthur has worked at Sanford's Ridge United Methodist Church since 2002. He was the pastor of 28 different United Methodist Churches in 58 years.

Arthur was a member of North Central NY Conference of the United Methodist Church, and a former member of Lions Club in Niagara Falls.

Some of Arthur's enjoyments included golfing and model car collecting.

In addition to his parents, Arthur was predeceased by a sister, Evelyn VanValin and her husband, Philip, of Windham, NY, a brother, Oliver Northrup and his wife, Virginia, of Middleburg, NY, and a brother-in-law, Lloyd Flack of Brier Hill, NY.

Survivors include his loving wife of 15 years, Evah Jane Northrup of Queensbury; three daughters, Susan Bennett and her husband, Arlie, of Geneseo, NY, Tina Hotaling and her husband, Jim, of Willsboro, NY, and Christine McCauliffe and her husband, Mike, also of Willsboro; a son, Paul Northrup and his wife, Carolyn, of Valatie, NY; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a twin sister, Arlene Flack of Brier Hill, NY; and many dear friends.

Friends may call upon the family Tuesday, May 29, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury.

Another calling hour will take place Wednesday, May 30, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Hudson Falls United Methodist Church, 227 Main St., followed by an 11 a.m. funeral at the church, with the Rev. Dawn Robbins officiating.

A gathering to celebrate Arthur's life will follow the funeral Wednesday at the church.

Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family at Lakeview Cemetery, Willsboro, NY.

Memorial donations may be made, in loving memory of Arthur, to Hudson Falls United Methodist Church, 227 Main St., Hudson Falls, NY 12839, or to Sanford's Ridge United Methodist Church, 1919 Sanford's Ridge Rd., Kingsbury, NY 12020-2563.
