Obituary

QUEENSBURY – Ashley Elizabeth Fazio, 22, passed away Friday, July 28, 2017 surrounded by her loving family, at the Cleveland Clinic, in Cleveland Ohio, after complications from transplant surgery.

Born January 12, 1995, in Nyack, NY, she is the daughter of JJ Fazio and Teresa Nicholson Fazio, owners of Sweet Basil Restaurant.

At Sweet Basil Restaurant, Ashley was known as "the little boss" and was beloved by customers and employees alike for her always-sunny disposition. She was first diagnosed with liver disease over six years ago. Ashley showed incredible strength throughout the years. Even as she struggled with her illness, Ashley continued to go out in the world, touching the hearts of everyone around her. She was an incredible young woman, who showed compassion, thoughtfulness and selflessness each day of her life.

A 2013 graduate of Queensbury High School, Ashley loved working at the restaurant and interacting with customers, before her illness prevented her from doing so. She had a love of card games, board games, movies and trivia. One of her favorite past times, was attending trivia night every Wednesday at Uno Chicago Grill hosted by her favorite DJ, John Gelheiser (DJ Luny Tunz).

After a long battle with Autoimmune Hepatitis and Lupus, Ashley's health had deteriorated to the point that a liver transplant was necessary. Due to the low transplant rate in New York State, the family was encouraged to look into out-of-state hospitals. In June, Cleveland Clinic found a match for Ashley. After surgery a week ago, Ashley developed complications which resulted in her untimely death.

Ashley is predeceased by her grandfather, John Fazio.

She is survived by her parents, JJ and Terry Fazio, of Queensbury; Brother, Alec Fazio of Queensbury, Sister, Alexis Connor and her husband, Chris, of Saratoga Springs; Grandparents, Richard (Nick) and Kay Nicholson, of Queensbury, Grandmother, Jean Fazio of Queensbury; Aunts, Michele Weis and husband Gerry, Carol Brown and husband Terry, Christine Nicholson and husband Brian, Cheryl Moehringer and husband Mike, Nancy Nicholson, Tina Dzialo and Husband John; Uncle, Craig and wife Lisa; Cousins, Lisa Nicolosi and husband Steve, Harrison Nicolosi, Jackson Nicolosi, Jessica Weis, Joel Brown and wife Danielle, Olivia Brown, Max Brown, Jared Brown and wife Kimberly, Abby Brown, Andrea Moehringer, Brittany Bono and husband Matt, Nicole Wilson, Trentyn Wilson, Austin Moehringer, Jessica Dzialo, John Dzialo, Nick Dzialo, Samuel Dzialo, Rachel Cohen, Joshua Cohen, Jacob Cohen, Connor Nicholson, Shaun Nicholson; as well as other close friends and family members.
