WHITEHALL --- Augustus James Bennett, 81, passed away at the Wesley Healthcare Facility in Saratoga Springs, on Tuesday, March 2 ^nd , 2021, after a long illness with his loved ones by his side.

Born on February 23, 1940 in Glens Falls, he was the son of James and Mary E. (Quigley) Bennett.

Augustus graduated from Whitehall High School, and in 1963, he was drafted into the United States Army, serving his country in the intelligence department until 1965.

After his time in the military, Augustus attended Siena College in Loudonville, and Castleton College in Castleton, Vermont. While he was attending school, he worked with his father at the Arlington Hotel in Whitehall. Following his work at the hotel, he took a short BOCES course before joining the Glens Falls Hospital staff as a practical nurse.

In his spare time, he loved to watch movies and study the Bible.

Augustus is predeceased by his parents, James and Mary Bennett, and his grandparents, Walter and Charlotte Bennett, and Augustus and Mary Quigley.

Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Xavier Foster and his wife, Kim of Saratoga Springs; his two grandchildren, Jack and Grace Foster of Saratoga Springs; his sister, Mary Joan Paddock; his nephew, John Paddock; his two nieces, Michelle 'Shelly' Holman and Carrie Etesse; and two loving friends, Jack Millea of Rensselear and Linda Williams of Hudson Falls.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family.

A graveside ceremony with military honors will follow the funeral at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.
