Obituary

QUEENSBURY -- Barbara Brassel, 77, of Rockwell Rd., passed away suddenly Saturday, Aug.1, 2015.

Born Sept. 4, 1937 in Albany, she was the daughter of the late George and Gertrude (Albert) Lynch.

Barb attended Oneonta High School and received her BA from Harper College in 1959.

On Oct. 21, 1961 Barb married Roger Brassel, in Oneonta, N.Y., her husband of 53 years.

For many years she taught fourth grade in Binghamton, N.Y. She also taught high school parochial school in Montreal and started a fourth grade language program in Cherry Hill, N.J.

Barb was also the owner of Town and Country Optical for past 30 years.

A proud founding member of Adirondack Repertory Dance Theater, Barb was also an avid reader who enjoyed outdoor activities, studying foreign languages, skiing, horses, ice cream, and was proud of her pilot's license.

Along with her parents, Barb was predeceased by her son, Tom Brassel, and her sister, Margaret Getman.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Roger Brassel; two daughters, Beth and Kate Brassel; two sisters, Trude Schwartz and Rita Syron; two brothers, George and Jude Lynch; three precious horses, Simon, Fazil, and Arosa; a burrow named Pearl; her dog, Lily; and her cat, Milo.

Calling hours will take place Thursday, Aug. 6, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, NY 12804.

A funeral will be held Friday, Aug. 7, at 11 a.m. at Church of Our Lady of the Annunciation with the Rev. Joseph Anselment, Pastor Emeritus, officiating.

Burial will be private to the family at St. James Cemetery in North Creek.

Donations in Barb's memory may be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 2151, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38101-2151.

The family wishes to send a special thanks to Bay Ridge Rescue.

"Barbara was a sliver of light on the darkest of days. She brought tremendous joy, love and comfort to her family and friends. Her enthusiasm for life was infectious and all those she touched will remember great adventures, and long talks. She was a woman of reflection, a student always, and a fearless adventurer. Words cannot express the sorrow and pain from losing our dearest friend. We will miss her everyday and carry her in our hearts always."
