Barbara J. Maffey, born April 14, 1937, passed through Heaven's Gates on Sunday, April 20, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Barbara was 88 years old. She was a resident of Warrensburg, NY.
During her life, Barbara was a loving and giving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, cousin, aunt, and friend. She was a graduate of Port Henry High School. Barbara took great pride in being a homemaker and mother. Barbara also experienced various career endeavors throughout her life. Barbara worked at Moses-Ludington Nursing Home, International Paper, The Sagamore, American Cancer Society and North Country Ministries where she was also a volunteer. Barbara was also the sole caregiver to her father, Marcel, for over 20 years.
Barbara had many interests including antiques, history, and going to Broadway plays. She had a special interest in English History, American History, and history of the greater Adirondak area and Lake Champlain. Barbara was also an avid reader and book lover. She instilled the joy of reading in her children. She loved music, especially Sarah Brightman. She enjoyed spending time at the beach; visiting antique shops; cooking; and traveling.
Barbara was preceded in death by parents, Hilda (Wallace) and Marcel Maffey; sister, Joann (Maffey) DuRoss; grandson, John Briggs, Jr; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends.
Barbara is survived by daughters, Susan (Wheelock)/John Hoffman, and Jo Anne (Wheelock)/Jim Penker. She is also survived by cousins, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Barbara is also survived by several close friends including Geri Howell, Monica Kenyon, Brenda Teagle, Tanya Bosford, and Angela Butterworth.
At Barbara's request, there will be no visitation, funeral nor celebration of life. At your discretion, donations can be made in her memory to The American Diabetes Foundation , American Cancer Society, and Warrensburg Meals on Wheels.
