QUEENSBURY -- Carl A. Garb, 81, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 22, 2012, at Westmount Health Facility in Queensbury.
Born Aug. 2, 1930, in Niskayuna, he was the son of the late Charles and Helen (Elwertowski) Garb.
Carl retired from the Army National Guard in 1968 after 21 years of dedicated service.
As a mechanic and salesman for heavy equipment, Carl started his career with State Equipment Company in Schenectady. His work brought him north to Queensbury, where he served the residents as highway superintendent for 12 years. He then returned to truck and equipment sales for Carswell Truck Center and Queensbury Motors of Glens Falls. Until his retirement, he was construction manager for Northway Estates in Malta, N.Y.
Carl was a committed affiliate of several organizations. He was a member of Queensbury United Methodist Church, Queensbury Central Fire Department, both Warren County and Queensbury Republican Committees, Warren County Town Highway Superintendent Association, Kiwanis, BPOE Lodge No. 81, and also the Boy Scouts of America Troop No. 17.
He was a loving father and grandfather. He also had a love for food, and enjoyed all types of auto racing, as well as polka music, camping, boating, vacations with his family and many trips he took to Maine with dear friends.
Survivors include his six children, Gail Root and her husband, Frank, Debra McLeod, Chuck Garb and his wife, Dori, Joseph Garb, Steven Garb and his wife, Patricia, and Tracey Garb and her companion, Jeff; a daughter-in-law, Lisa Garb; seven grandchildren, Colby and Erik Garb, Sarah McLeod, Alex and Christian Root, and Jason and Evan Kvinlaug; his sister, Irene Maliszewski; also several nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear and close friends.
Friends may call on the family from noon to 2 p.m. and from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, April 26, at Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury. The Glens Falls BPOE Lodge No. 81 will perform a Lodge of Sorrow at 5:45 p.m., during the calling hours.
A memorial service will follow at 6 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Rich Weihing, pastor of Queensbury United Methodist, officiating.
Interment will take place at the convenience of the family at Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Duell Road, Saratoga.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of a donation, in loving memory of Carl, to Westmount Health Facility Activities Fund, 41 Gurney Lane, Queensbury, NY 12804.
