Obituary

QUEENSBURY- Charles W. "Charlie" Jarvis, 90, of Caroline St., passed away suddenly Saturday morning, July 4, 2015 at his home.

Born June 4, 1925 in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Charles D. and Beatrice (Monroe) Jarvis.

After graduating from Glens Falls High, Class of 1943, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and spent two and a half years overseas with the 3rd Marine Division in the South Pacific where he earned the Purple Heart.

After being honorably discharged as a Corporal in December of 1945, Charlie was accepted into the Local 773 Pipe Fitters Apprentice Training Program, completing it in 1951, then worked as a journeyman and general foreman for the next several years. In 1954, Charlie was elected to the Local Pipe Fitters Executive Board, and in 1956, he was elected as a part time Business Agent serving three years, then gave up that position to supervise work. In 1967, Charlie was then again elected as a full time Business Manager, serving repeatedly for the next 19 years. He also was, at the end of his tenure, President of the Glens Falls Building Trades. He was a member of the NYS Pipefitters Executive Board from 1973 to 1986 when he retired after 41 years of dedicated service.

Charlie was also a member of the Saratoga V.F.W. Post No. 420 and a member of the Marine Corps League of Glens Falls.

Charlie was married to Vivian A. (Naylor) Jarvis who passed away January 23, 2008 after 61 devoted years. She was not only his wife, but also his fishing partner and best friend.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and was one of the founding members of the Buck Mountain Hunting Club in North River.

Besides his beloved wife, he also was predeceased by his brothers, Raymond, Dale and Don Jarvis, and a sister, Carolyn Jarvis.

Survivors include two sons, Michael Jarvis and his wife, Sandra, and Robert Jarvis and his wife, Audrey; five grandchildren, Melissa O'Sick, Michael Jarvis and his wife, Christine, Robert Jarvis, Colby Jarvis and his wife, Melynda, and Chad (Charlie's A…Buddy) Jarvis; six great-grandchildren, Stephen and Dylan O'Sick, Jessica, Tyler, Brett and Wyatt Jarvis; several brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and dear friends, including his many friends at Sully's Capital Grill who listened to his numerous stories and put up with his antics.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to Terri Hickey, Charlie's special friend for her love and care.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday, July 8, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, NY 12804.

A funeral service will immediately follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Glen Hamilton officiating.

Burial, with military honors, will be at Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, at the convenience of the family.
