Obituary

QUEENSBURY — Charlotte D. Bowman, of Jenkinsville Rd., Queensbury, passed away Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, at Westmount Health Facility after a long illness.
Born Oct. 4, 1921 in Hampton, N.Y. she was the daughter of the late Eugene E. and Minnie (Andrus) Dewey.
Charlotte attended grade school in Hampton, N.Y. and then Oneida School in Queensbury and Glens Falls High School, before graduating from South Glens Falls High School, Class of 1940. She received her Business Diploma from Springfield, Vt.
On Aug. 11, 1940, Charlotte married Howard L. Bowman, a marriage that lasted 57 years, before his passing in 1997.
Charlotte was a member of Oneida Community Church in Queensbury, and an associated member of Pineda Community Church in Melbourne, Fla. She had been Sunday School Superintendent of Oneida Community Church, as well as holding many other offices. She was also secretary of the now closed Old North Church in Queensbury, as well as a member of Queensbury Senior Citizens, past member of Mohican Grange, honorary member of Cooper's Cave Auto Enthusiasts, and Green Mt. Chapter of The Model A Ford Club in Vt.
Charlotte worked for many years at S.S. Kresge's and F.W. Woolworth, before she ended her working career at Queensbury School Food System in 1965.
Some of her enjoyments included collecting salt and pepper shakers, spending time in the outdoors, gardening, her houseplants, and watching birds and feeding them. She also loved her Kitty Precious, and traveling, spending many winters in Florida with her husband.
In addition to her parents, Charlotte was predeceased by a sister, Mrs. Shirley Dube; and one brother, Harley I. Dewey.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Robert H. Bowman and his wife, Michelle, of Queensbury; two grandsons, Jason Bowman of Glens Falls, Jarrod Bowman and his wife, Renee, of Ballston Spa; twin great-grandsons, Gage and Cole Bowman also of Ballston Spa; one sister-in-law, Rita Dewey of South Glens Falls and Fla.; also several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Calling hours will be held from 1 to 3 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 6, at Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St. Queensbury, N.Y.
A funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. David McCane of Oneida Community Church officiating.
Following the funeral service, friends are invited to join the family for a gathering at Oneida Community Church, Sunnyside Rd., Queensbury.
A graveside service will take place in the spring at a time to be announced at Southside Cemetery, South Glens Falls.
