May 14, 1954 — May 26, 2024
LAKE GEORGE --- Cheryl "Cherie" L. Knopka, 70, passed away at Glens Falls Hospital on Sunday, May 26, 2024, following a valiant battle with COPD.
Born May 14, 1954, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of Harold A. and Aletha H. (Cone) Wakefield.
Cherie graduated from Glens Falls High School in 1972 and went on to attend SUNY New Paltz. She worked as a secretary for Evergreen Bank in Glens Falls for 15 years. Then upon moving to Gilford New Hampshire, she worked as the secretary for the City of Laconia. Following retirement, she and her husband Bruce moved back to the Lake George Region to enjoy boating, camping, and spending time with her family and grandkids. Family was everything to Cherie and she loved her special times with each grandchild and great-grandchild, offering love, support, and kindness. Cherie also loved reading and was an avid Boston Bruins fan.
In addition to her parents, Cherie was predeceased by her in-laws, Walter and Helen Knopka; nephew, Scott Morehouse.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 48 years, Bruce D. Knopka of Lake George; beloved sons, Jeremy (Amber) Knopka of Norhfield, New Hampshire and Jordan (Rhia) Knopka of Warrensburg; grandchildren, Seth, Dylan (Brianna), Skylahr, Madison, Rylee, Alexis, Harper, and Avery Knopka; great-grandchildren, Winter, Saige and baby-to-be Knopka; sisters, Debbie (David) Ferris and Kim (David) Pike; brother, Scott Wakefield; also several nieces and nephews.
There will be no calling hours.
Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
Cherie loved all animals, especially dogs and cats, so the family asks that contributions in her memory be made to any organization supporting animals or any charity of one's choice.
