Obituary

GLENS FALLS -- Claudette Loraine Haley, age, passed away Monday, September 22, 2014, in Glens Falls Hospital, after a long illness.

Claudette was born in West Newbury, Mass. on June 12. 1936, daughter of Roland G. Lavoie and Florence (Kelso) Lavoie.

At a young age she helped raise her siblings after the loss of her father. While in high school, she learned to sew and became a talented seamstress making her own clothes. Claudette graduated as Valedictorian from Immaculate Conception High School.

Claudette married Tom, her high school sweetheart, in 1957, while he was stationed in Germany.

Tom and Claudette returned to Newburyport to start a family. Claudette enjoyed cooking and rarely had to follow a recipe. While she was home, there was rarely a time when something was not in the oven, on the stove or in the cookie jar.

She gave and gave. If she saw a neighborhood kid with torn pants, she would repair them. If she found out someone needed some help, she would provide it. She volunteered countless hours for many organizations including the Salvation Army. She took in Foreign Exchange students and acquaintances down on their luck. Her down to earth wisdom brought many to her, seeking advice. She was an exceptional mother to not only her own family but to friends and strangers. She took the time to build strong relationships with her grandsons who will dearly miss her.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Philip Lavoie and Roland Lavoie, and one sister, Sandra ( Lavoie) Thurlow.

She leaves behind a devoted husband, Thomas E. Haley; four sons and their wives, Mark and Holly Haley, David and Sarah Haley, Peter and Hannah Haley, and Dan and Jen Haley; as well as six grandsons, Ryan, Ethan, Connor, Rael, Gavin and Liam Haley; two brothers, Norman Lavoie and Bobby Lavoie; as well as one sister, Joanne (Lavoie) Stanton; along with numerous loving relatives and friends.

A celebration of her life will be held 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Friday Oct. 3rd at Maynard D Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St. Queensbury, NY.

A memorial service will begin at noon following the celebration.

A special thanks to all the dedicated health-care providers who helped her through tough times.
