NEWCOMB – After a protracted battle with cancer, Connie Jane Fontaine died on May 16, 2015 in Newcomb, NY at the age of 66. She leaves behind her husband of 47 years, Gerald Fontaine; her daughter, Tonya (Ron) Hotmer; and her son, Noel (Tonya Jarrett) Fontaine.
Connie was born on June 2, 1948 in Richford, VT, to father, Oscar Norton and mother, Stella Steinhour, who predeceased her. She grew up in a large, loving family with two sisters and four brothers.
Connie was proud of her career as an LNP, most extensively with Wilton Developmental Center, and was well known for her natural, nurturing nature both at work and amongst family and friends.
Connie married Canadian born, Gerald Fontaine, in 1967. They relocated to the Capital District, and later the Glens Falls area, to raise their two children before finally settling back in her hometown of Newcomb. The Adirondacks was an area Connie enjoyed immensely and spent a life time ensuring those closest to her enjoyed with her, whether it was kayaking, hiking, or simply sitting around a campfire.
Connie also enjoyed travel, was an accomplished seamstress, and a devout card player. She remained a brave, iron-willed woman, even throughout her final weeks. Connie was also steadfast in her faith in God and will be without fear and in peace in his loving arms. No one is more deserving.
Connie is survived by her husband and children, as well as, her sister, Bonnie Potter; her brothers, William, Floyd, Larry, and Nicky Norton; her grandchildren, Payton and Cellinn Fontaine, Nicole Hotmer, Lyndsey Bergeson, and Lauren Wardel; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Mary Rodrigue.
Connie requested to be cremated. Her ashes will be interred at the family plot in Newcomb, NY.
Services will be June 6, time to be announced at a later date, and will be held in Newcomb.
The family would especially like to thank the community, friends, and family who have been instrumental in helping us through such a great loss.
