Obituary

QUEENSBURY — Daniel John Gwinup, 70, passed away peacefully at Glens Falls Hospital on December 23rd, 2025 after a long illness. He was born in Glens Falls and raised in Queensbury. He was a 1973 graduate of Queensbury High School and attended SUNY Canton.

Dan worked alongside his father Orlie Gwinup for 26 years in the family business, Gwinup's General Store. After the store closed, Dan missed friends and customers of the store, so he began bartending at Rick and Carol's, then on to the Full Moon. Growing up in this area, working at the store, and then bartending, Dan acquired numerous friends. He was well-liked and deeply connected to his family.

Over the years, Dan had many interests in sports, motorcycles, and boating. In the winter, he had season tickets to the Adirondack Red Wings Games. Dan enjoyed snowmobiling through the woods, often stopping to build a fire and cook hot dogs with his family. In the spring, he looked forward to the annual Whitewater Derby and spending the weekend at his camp Yahoo-ee with friends. Summers were spent at his camp cruising on Glen Lake and having fires on the beach. Dan enjoyed his Harley and rides in the country.

You could often find him at a local bar with a rum and Coke surrounded by friends telling stories. Those who knew Dan often heard the story of him working at Martha's as a teenager when an orangutan from Animal Land broke in the back door and chased him through the restaurant (Funniest story ever!).

Dan is predeceased by his parents, Jean and Orlie Gwinup, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends.

Dan is survived by his wife of 48 years, Kathryn Gwinup. Together they raised two children, their daughter Melissa Clark (Benjamin); their son, Shawn Gwinup; three granddaughters, Mila Gwinup, Ava Orli Clark, and Kerrigan Clark; his sister, Kathleen Gwinup, and many cousins and friends.

Visitation will take place at Baker's Funeral Home on Lafayette St. on January 2nd, 2026 from 2:00-6:00. A funeral service will follow officiated by Reverend Tiffany Guay.

Dan will live on in the memories of his many friends and family. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Elk's Club on Cronin Road January 4th, 3:00-7:00.
