Obituary

SURPRISE, AZ/ GLENS FALLS – On Eagles Wings He Is Set Free.

Daniel Lee Sawn, 54, formerly of Glens Falls and currently of Surprise, Az. passed away Saturday, January 23, 2016 in Flagstaff, AZ after a long history with heart disease.

Born July 31, 1961, he was the son of the late John Sawn Sr., and Melvina (Smith) Sawn Harrington.

After obtaining his GED, Dan worked for a few places, including Mayflower Moving Co., until he was hired at the Post Star Newspaper. At the paper, Dan made many friends while he was a press mechanic and eventually supervisor. He worked there for over 20 years until his health prevented him to continue.

Dan spent many hours playing video games and enjoying a good cup of Stewart's coffee when he wasn't enjoying the sunshine on his motorcycle. He enjoyed vacationing in warmer weather, traveling with his friends, and above all the time spent with his family. He adored all of his grandchildren more than words can say.

Most of Dan's life was spent surrounded by his loving family in Glens Falls until his recent move to be with his son, TSgt Daniel Sawn, and family in Arizona. Dan's youngest granddaughter, Annemarie, was diagnosed with brain cancer. Her fight was tremendous and gave hope to everyone who knew and loved her. Dan packed up everything and moved out west in hopes to relieve some of the burden put on his son and his family. November 29, 2015, sweet Annemarie, only18 months old, passed away. Dan was a strong anchor to the family. Being there was a comfort to them and he tried very hard to ease any pain he could.

Along with his parents and both sets of grandparents, Dan was predeceased by a brother, Peter Sawn; a nephew, Joseph Hebert; his youngest granddaughter, whom he loved dearly, Annemarie Claire Sawn; and his devoted dog, Lexi.

Left to cherish his memory are his dedicated children, Jessica (Rob) Crosier of Whitehall, Sandra (Jeremy) Dickinson of Queensbury, U.S. Air Force TSgt Daniel (U.S. Air Force TSgt Angela) Sawn of Surprise, AZ; his step sons, retired Army Veteran Brad Battease of Ticonderoga and David Bailey of Glens Falls; his adored grandchildren, Jaquob Sawn, Benjamin Majao, Robert Jr. and Jeramyah Crosier, Alexandra and Austin Dickinson, Devin Sawn, Lyssa and Jada Battease, Andrew and Hailey Miller, Lucas and Kane Bailey; siblings include his sisters, Ellen Jackowski and Jane (Kevin) Costello, his brothers, John Jr. (Debbie), Clayton, Thomas (Dawn) and James Sawn; a sister-in-law, Elena Baldwin Sawn; his aunts, Jenny (Tom) Staunches, Gert Shippey, Donna McCabe; uncles include, Halsey (Nancy) Smith, Ed (Cathy) Smith, Bill (Dale) Smith, Lee Smith and a special Uncle he spent a lot of time with, Lou Smith; his very large extended family includes, Barbara Durham and Paula Battease and their families; some of his best friends, Ken Brynes, Kyle Bosford and Jim Watson, special mention to his very best friend, Buddy (Jean) Blackmer and their children, Dan, Chris and Jacey; along with many cherish nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family wishes to send a special thank you to Dr. Odabashian and his staff, at St. Peter's Hospital, for their care over the last few years.

In lieu of flowers the family would like donations in Dan's memory to be sent to American Heart Association, 440 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205 and/or Texas Children Hospital, 6621 Fannin St., Huston TX 77030 in memory of Annemarie Claire Sawn.
