QUEENSBURY – David Charles Arnold, 76, of Queensbury, passed away Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014 after a long battle with cancer with his family by his side.
Born Jan. 23, 1938 in Blue Mountain Lake, he was the son of the late Irving and Eleanor (Spring) Arnold.
Dave graduated from Glens Falls High School, class of 1956.
Dave enlisted in the United States Army and was honorably discharged Oct. 31, 1963 at the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Dave worked for TV Data as a type setter in his younger days where he set print by hand. He was also employed at Sherwood Medical and had his own mail route as a rural carrier. He loved his mail route and befriended many people on Ridge Rd., Pilot Knob, and Cleverdale. His last job was at Champlain Slate and Gravel as a machine operator.
During his retirement he enjoyed helping out around the house and traveling to visit his daughter in Cape Cod and son in Long Branch, N.J. He spent many nights and weekends volunteering at the American Legion Post No. 374 in Lake George, where he was the "Commander." He will miss his best friend, Dick Dijanto, who helped him generously during his battle.
His best times of all were spent at "camp" in Indian Lake. He could always be found sitting next to the fire playing his mandolin and having a cocktail. He would like to put out one last "Drag your AS !!" to all who knew him at camp. "Camp" was his favorite place to be, and where lasting memories were made with his many friends.
Along with his parents, Dave was predeceased by his wife, Donna, and his brother, Ralph Arnold.
Left to cherish his memory are his three children, Dave Arnold Jr., Carl Arnold and wife, Melissa, and Deanna Arnold and her fiancé, Michael; five grandchildren, Luke, Linsay, Cole, Courtney, and Kristen; sister, Flossy Brown; brother, Frank Arnold; sister-in-law, Dee Arnold; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Calling hours will be Saturday, March 1 from 12 to 3 p.m. at Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury.
At his request there will be no funeral service.
