MOREAU--- It is with deep sadness that we inform you of the peaceful at home passing of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, David Andrew Hatin, on July 31, 2013, following a three year battle with colon cancer and COPD. He approached his illness with dignity and grace, never once complaining.
Born February 12, 1935 in Burlington, V.T., he was the son of the late Donald and Freda (Purner) Hatin.
Dave proudly shared his birthday with Abraham Lincoln.
At age seven, the family moved to Glens Falls, N.Y. As a young man with a soprano voice, he sang on the local radio station, WWSC. His dream was to become a radio announcer.
Dave was a graduate of Fort Edward High School, class of 1953.
On September 9, 1955, he joined the U.S. Air Force. He served two years in active duty, and four years in the Air Force Reserve.
On September 9, 1956, he and Elaine DeGrechie were married at Notre Dame Church in Schuylerville, N.Y.
In 1999, after 27 dedicated years, he retired from Finch Pruyn Paper Company.
Dave was a quiet, dignified and gentle man who loved his family, animals, music, and watching NCIS, wrestling, the military channel, and golf (especially because of Tiger Woods).
He was especially proud of his children and grandchildren and their accomplishments.
In addition to his parents, Dave is predeceased by two brothers, Donald and baby Daniel; mother-in-law, Neolia DeGrechie and a nephew, Timothy Trombley.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Elaine; three sons, David (Michelle), Daniel, and Christopher (Kelli); granddaughters, Morgan, Victoria, Alyssa, their mother, Margaret, granddaughter, Grace, her mother Kerrie, granddaughters, Hailie and Devin Lane; grandsons, Kody and Kolin Kristel; sister, Elizabeth Trombley; sister-in-law, Glenda; several nieces, nephews, cousins, special cousins Melvin and June Johnson and his loving canine companion and nurse, his beloved cocker spaniel, Hollee.
A special thank you to our neighbor and friend, John Robbins, for his faithful care. Also we would like to thank his Walmart co-workers who helped and looked after him at work. Special thank you to Dr. William Borgos, Dr. Mark Hoffman, Andrew his assistant, Dr. Surendra NeVatia and their entire staff whose compassionate care helped him through this difficult time. To all the staff on tower 2, floor 2 at C.R. Wood Cancer Center, thank you for your compassion and care during his recent stay at Glens Falls Hospital. He thought all of you were the greatest! To the staff of the Community Hospice of Saratoga and all who came to our home to make his last days comfortable and worry free, especially Karen, Colleen, Brian, and Tammy, you were wonderful beyond words.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Community Hospice of Saratoga, 179 Lawrence St., Saratoga Springs NY 12866, or Adirondack Save-A-Stray, 4880 Rte. 9N, Corinth, NY 12822.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday, August 6, from 10-11 am immediately followed by Mass at St. Michael the Archangel Church, 80 Saratoga Ave., South Glens Falls.
Burial services will be held at Notre Dame de Lourdes Cemetery in Schuylerville with the Rev. Tony Childs officiating.
