Obituary

Lake George --- Delbert Morgan Filkins, age 78, of Lake George and formerly of Saratoga Springs, was promoted to glory on Monday, July 22, 2013 at the C.R. Wood Cancer Center of Glens Falls Hospital after a long illness.

Born December 15, 1934 in Saratoga Springs to Joseph and Sarah Elizabeth (Foster) Filkins.

Morgan retired as a 36 year employee of the United States Postal Service as a rural carrier in Saratoga Springs. Most recently, he spent 13 years working "greens and grounds" at Saratoga National Golf Club. Volunteer activities included being a lifetime member of the Maple Avenue Fire Department in Saratoga Springs.

Morgan was an avid golfer who excelled at the sport and was a longtime member of Brookhaven Golf Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and outdoor sports. He was passionate about spending time with his family and his dog of ten years, his golden retriever, Buddy.

Besides his parents, Morgan was predeceased by his wife of 42 years, Hazel Hayes Filkins; two of his children Kathleen (infant) and Kevin (age 52); his brother Joseph Filkins; and his sister Eleanor Filkins Parker.

Morgan is survived by his daughter Karen Filkins-Sanders, son-in-law Dr. Michael Sanders, grandson Brendan Sanders, granddaughter Bronwyn Sanders, all of Ohio; grandsons Glenn and Jeremiah Filkins of North Carolina; brother Paul Filkins of Ballston Spa; sister Major Marion Wheatley of Alabama; also many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and close friends.

Morgan also left behind his wife of 13 years, Karen Salvi Filkins, stepdaughter Angela Salvi, stepson Sam Salvi, and step grandson Stephen Salvi.

Calling hours will be held Monday, July 29, 2013 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury.

A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, led by Major David Maddock of Salvation Army, Dubois, Penn.
Maple Avenue Fire Company No. 4 of the Greenfield Fire District will lead the procession to Maplewood Cemetery, corner of Wiebel Ave. and Loudon Road, Saratoga Springs, for burial following the funeral service.

Heartfelt thanks to the staff of the C.R. Wood Cancer Center of Glens Falls Hospital who's nurses, nursing assistants, and technicians excelled at not only care but humor, kindness and dignity.
