Obituary

GANSEVOORT --- Dolores Foster, 87, of Gansevoort, NY and formerly of Liberty, NY, passed peacefully into eternal life on April 7, 2017. Born October 30, 1929, Dolores was the daughter of the late Olegario Castrillon and Corrine Ryan.

Dolores lived a long, amazing life and touched countless people along the way. After raising her children, Dolores went back to school and got her teaching degree, and spent the next 19 years as an elementary school teacher, retiring early in 1994 to take care of her daughter Kathy's family after her untimely passing.

Everyone who met Dolores realized what a warm, loving, special woman she was. Her devotion to her family and friends was tireless and her love for her children, grandchildren and siblings was endless. If anyone in her family was in need of anything, she would drop everything to be there for them. Dolores' loved entertaining, and one of her favorite things was hosting family and friends at her house for parties and holidays. She absolutely loved cooking for all of her loved ones. She was an excellent cook and baker, and enjoyed sending food and baked goods to neighbors and friends as well. Dolores also loved to tell stories about he life, and many people would tell her that if she ever wrote a biography, it would end up on the NY Times Bestseller list. Dolores also loved to read all different types of books, and was always in the middle of 2 or 3 books at any given time. She was a great conversationalist and had a wicked sense of humor. She was a staunch liberal who loved to talk about politics and current events. Dolores was known for her tremendous grit and determination. She lovedlife and lived it to its fullest. She was the definition of a fighter, and fought to the very end.

Dolores was predeceased by her loving husband James W. Foster. She was also predeceased by her daughter Kathleen Osterhout, her sister Rita (Vincent) Barone and her brother in law William Pappas. Dolores is survived by her 3 children, David Foster (Lisa Bartlett) of Gansevoort, NY, Stephen (Barbara) Foster of Longmont, CO, an Diane (Joe) Ilardi of Rocky Mount, VA; 1 son-in law, Steven (Sheila) Osterhout; 2 brothers, Richard (Fran) Castrillon and Daniel Castrillon; 2 sisters, Janet Pappas and Linda (Lee) Lavelanet; 8 grandchildren, Ryan (Jill) Osterhout, Shannon (Scottie) Smith, Travis (Lauren) Osterhout, Steven Osterhout II, Kimberly Mensah, Amanda (Chris) Meade, Kandi (David) Cyrus and Lee (Melissa) Ledford. She was also survived byher 10 loving great-grandchildren, Mason, Ella, Travis, Noah, Ethan, Jacob, Sharon, Savannah, Vanessa, Ryan, and one great-granddaughter to be, Reagan.

A celebration of Dolores' life will be held for close family and friends on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 from 4:00 – 6:00 PM, with a memorial service to begin at 5pm, at Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, NY 12804. A memorial service will also be hed later this summer at her gravesite in Liberty, NY, where she will be buried with her late husband James W. Foster at the Veterans Cemetery in Liberty.

Gregory is a little boy who goes to school with her great-grandson Mason. Gregory is battling a cancerous tumor in his kidney, so any donations would go a long way to help he and his family.
