FORT EDWARD --- After a courageous battle with cancer, Donna J. (Hatchet) Chant, 71, eldest of seven children of the late Neil and Lorna (Eddy) Blanchard of Stony Creek, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 23, 2016 surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Jan. 15, 1945 at Glens Falls Hospital.
Donna had a genuine love for people and lived life to the fullest, loving deeply and truly. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her greatest enjoyments, other than her family, were gardening and her beloved pets, Molly and Spook.
Donna was very proud of her Indian Heritage. She loved the outdoors and the Adirondack Mountains.
When she was young, she traveled all over the world, fondly referring to herself as an "Army Brat." Later on, Donna waitressed at Top of the World and Prospect Diner in Lake George. After raising her family, she earned her Nursing Assistant License and enjoyed her work at Glens Falls Hospital.
Along with her parents, Donna was predeceased by her beloved husband, James "Jim" L. Chant Sr., who passed away in January, and an infant daughter, Kelly Jean.
Left to cherish her lasting memory are her children, Michelle (John) Murphy of Chestertown, William (Laura) West of Johnsburg, Robert (Stacey White) West of Hudson Falls, Kerri (Michael) Burgin of Sulphur Springs, Tx., Valerie (Dave) Greco of Palm Bay, Fla., Patricia Chant of Fort Edward, Sean Chant of Gansevoort, Shane Chant of Evergreen, Co., Shea Chant of Orlando, Fla.; 25 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; loving siblings, Roslyn (Jim) Johnson, Neil (Diane) Blanchard, Edward (Maria) Blanchard, Brett (Tara) Blanchard, Dorene (Kevin) Galvin, Raymond (Charlene) Blanchard; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
