Obituary

Glens Falls – Doras Downey Hubert, of North Road, passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at Eddy Village Green, Cohoes at the age of 94.

Born in Brooklyn, NY on October 4, 1921, she was the daughter of the late William and Priscilla (Wing) Downey.

Doras graduated from Montclair High School, (NJ) and attended The University of North Carolina at Greensboro where she obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Bio-Chemistry. She was reported to be the first female Bio-Chemist hired by DuPont.

She worked almost her entire life before retiring in 1986 as the Assistant Director of the Health Research Institute at Fairleigh Dickinson University in NJ. She and the Institute were instrumental in researching and identifying cancer risks from various forms of asbestos.

Doras enjoyed swimming and going to the beach; she was an active sewer and braider. She loved games of all sorts including chess, scrabble, bridge and crossword puzzles. She sang in Church Choirs and in the Masterwork Chorus of Morristown NJ which for many years performed "The Messiah" in Carnegie Hall. She liked researching family genealogy and was a member of The Mayflower Society and the Wing Family of America.

She traveled extensively throughout the America, Europe and Asia. This included twice living in a VW camper van with a family of 6 for 3 months while traveling around Europe. She lived In Hackettstown NJ from 1946-1958 where she was an Asst. Professor of Biology at Centenary College. She lived in Morris Township, NJ from 1958-1989 and then moved to Glens Falls, NY and Naples, FL.

Along with her parents, Doras was pre deceased by her husband of 65 years, James Post Hubert; her sister, Priscilla "Peg" Seiler; and her brother, William Wallace Downey.

Left to cherish her memory are her four children, William P. Hubert and his wife, Kathryn, of Glens Falls with their children, Devon L. (Jason) Hubert and their children, Cody and Lyla Brown, and Blythe P.(Harvey) Hveem and their children, Roscoe and Conrad Hveem; Richard P. Hubert and his wife, Barbara, of Dove Canyon, Calif., with their children, Jeffrey P. Hubert and his fiancé Meagan Chevalier, Patrick R. (Vicki) Hubert and their children, Katelyn and Ethan Hubert, and Laura M. Hubert.; James P. Hubert Jr. and his wife, Ruth, of Franklin, Mass., and their children, Emily A. (Eric) Hahn and Jennifer M. Hubert; Priscilla H. Grover and her husband, Philip, of W. Fairlee, Vt., their children, Elisabeth W. Grover, Rebecca M. Grover and Michael H. Grover; her two brothers, Rogers and Burton Downey; and her sister-in-law, Dorothy H. Jones of Bellport, N.Y.

Visiting hours will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, September 24, at Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, NY.

A brief memorial service will take place at 7:45 p.m. with the Rev. Barclay of First Presbyterian Church officiating.

A full memorial service at the First Presbyterian Church will be held at a time to be determined.

Interment will take place at Woodland Cemetery, Bellport, N.Y. at the convenience of the family.

Donations made be made in Doras name to the Marcella Sembrich Memorial Association, Bolton Landing, New York.
