Obituary

Doris Newton, 94 of Queensbury, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on Wednesday, December 28, 2016.

Born Doris T. West on September 26, 1922 in Glens Falls, daughter of Raymond and Annabelle (Mullen) West.

Doris graduated from Glens Falls High School and worked at the Glens Falls Insurance Company. She married Gerald K. Newton on March 6, 1948 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Nanny, as everyone called her, loved spending summers at camp on Loon Lake in Chestertown. She loved playing cards with friends, walking and Ball Room Dancing. She took great pleasure watching her grandchildren learning to swim & water ski. She tried her best to attend all the grandchildren's sporting events and birthday parties. She loved helping others and being independent, never wanting to put anyone out.

Doris was predeceased by her husband, Gerald in 1991, her father Raymond in 1969 and her mother Annabelle in 2006.

Survivors include her loving family, daughters Karen & husband Bruce Nelson of Lake George, Gerri Meyer of Queensbury, Peggy & husband David Baird of Ticonderoga and Carol & husband Richard Scheidegger of Chestertown; grandchildren Jody & husband Vinnie Crocitto, Scott & wife Wendy Baird, Jaime & husband William Hart, Patrick & wife Dawn Powers, David Baird & Courtney Shaler-Smith, Niki Sipowicz & Randy Estey, Jason & wife Darcy Baird, Richard & wife Jenn Scheidegger and Chad & wife Amanda Scheidegger; great-grandchildren Vinnie & Nicholas Crocitto, Mikayla Sipowicz, Sydney Hart, Sean, Tyler & Kaylee-Marie Powers, Vanessa, Jacob & Benjamin Baird, Zachery & Ashley Baird, Ryan, Logan & Colton Baird, Chase & Evan Scheidegger; step-grandchildren, Gayle & Ryan Nelson; several close nieces & nephews and her long time friend, Shirley Stevens.

At Nanny's request there will be no calling hours and a private family funeral.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 1 Penny Ln., Latham, NY 12110.
