DIAMOND POINT --- Dorothy Barrett Martin, 94, of Diamond Point Rd., passed away Friday, Jan. 11, 2013 at her home.
Born April 21, 1918 in Albany, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Morgan O. and Dorothy J. (Healy) Barrett, and granddaughter of Cora Gray Healy and Senator John F. Healy.
Dorothy was a graduate of the Albany Academy for Girls. She was active in the alumnae association. She earned an Associates Degree from Albany Business College.
Dorothy was the personal secretary to Wilbur Dow, President of the Lake George Steamboat Co. She had a strong work ethic and retired in her 80's. Into her early 80's she volunteered in the Caldwell Library in Lake George Village.
Dorothy had a strong Christian faith. She was a communicant of the Episcopal Church. She was known for her kindness and generosity. Dorothy loved her family.
Dorothy was a lifelong member of the Republican Party and was active in local politics. She took part in every election until just before her death. Dorothy believed in the power of the vote and every person's duty to serve others. She believed in "returning something to the community." Dorothy was a patient teacher and by her example, taught those around her the importance of faith, forgiveness and perseverance.
Dorothy was also known for her humor and wit. Until the day she died she could tell a good joke. Dorothy loved music and helped bring the Opera Festival to Lake George, hosting dinners for opera singers. She was also hostess to libretinest, Thomas Martin and his family. She listened to Live at the Met until her death. Dorothy was an avid gardener. She was particularly fond of Stargazer Lilies. Dorothy loved her dogs and they loved her.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Robert W. Martin, and son, Richard B. Martin.
Survivors include her son, Jeffrey G. Martin of Diamond Point; daughter, Pamela Marcoux of Lake Luzerne; grandchildren, Jessica Daigle of Norwich, Conn., Stacey Ferrone of Colonie, Christopher Ferrone of Warrensburg, and John F. Martin of Plymouth, Mass., and various great and great-great grandchildren.
Dorothy is "a tough act to follow." She will be sorely missed by all those who knew and love her.

An interment service will take place in the spring.
