Dorothy Hohmann
Moore
Jun 10, 1932 — Feb 27, 2024
QUEENSBURY - Dorothy Hohmann Moore passed peacefully into eternal life at the age of 91, on February 27, 2024, after a long illness. She was surrounded by her family at The Pines Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Glens Falls, NY. Dorothy was born on June 10, 1932, in Charleston, West Virginia, to Ruth and Frederick Hohmann (deceased).
Dorothy's passion for music took her from the University of Michigan in 1954 to global stages, where she excelled as a vocalist and violinist, performing in various musicals and concerts. Her remarkable career included roles with The Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera, solo performances at The Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church in New York City, and starred as the lead in "The Mikado" at the Greek Theatre in Hollywood. Dorothy's adventures continued as she toured as a soprano with the legendary Edith Piaf and appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show, among other notable Broadway and television productions.
In 1957, Dorothy's heart found its match in Stewart F. Moore, Esq. (deceased), and together they built a beautiful life, nurturing their two children in the historic town of Sleepy Hollow, NY. Dorothy's musical passion continued and thrived as chief soloist at St. Barnabas Church in Irvington, NY, and through teaching private voice lessons. The Moore's' relocation in 1979 to Queensbury marked the beginning of a family business venture, transforming The Lake George Motel into an Econo Lodge, a notable entity within the International Choice Hotel Franchise. This endeavor was not only a testament to their entrepreneurial spirit but also mirrored Dorothy's profound love for the Adirondacks.
Though her son Rusty Moore (deceased in 2019) has gone before her, Dorothy's legacy lives on through her adoring daughter Patricia Ruth Moore of Queensbury; her devoted daughter-in-law Regina Carroll Moore and her cherished granddaughters, Katelyn Grace Moore and Megan Dorothy Moore of Elmsford, NY. Her memory is also warmly kept by her dedicated niece, Suzon Behnke; nephew Donald Edsall and grand-niece Stephanie Knoper of Michigan. She is also survived by her loving cousin Sandie Kennedy of Concord, Massachusetts. Copper, her beloved cat and constant companion, will sorely miss her presence.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Victor Lambert, Mary McIntosh, Mary Ann Sprague, Lisa Clouse, Lisa Stevens, and many others who provided Dorothy with love and care throughout the years.
In lieu of flowers and in celebration of Dorothy's life and her love for animals, the family kindly requests that donations be made to The Feline Connection, P.O. Box 567, Rutland, VT 05702 or Purrs and Paws, P.O. Box 4197, Queensbury, NY 12804.
A gathering to honor Dorothy's remarkable life will be held at Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette Street, Queensbury, NY, on Friday, March 1, 2024 from 4 to 6 p.m. A funeral service will be held the following day, Saturday, March 2, at 9:30 a.m. Dorothy's life was a symphony of love, artistry, and compassion, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
