Obituary

MOREAU --- Dorothy Volk, 91, of Moreau, passed away Wednesday, August 8, 2018 with loved ones by her side after a brief illness.

Born in Queens on September 10, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Marion (Bruna) Schmidt.

Dorothy graduated from Andrew Jackson High School.

She worked for New York City Social Services, legal division.

In October 1947, Dorothy married John Volk in Brooklyn. They resided there for 45 years, then moved to Queensbury in 1982.

Some of her enjoyments included oil painting, cooking food, spending time with family and friends, reading, playing piano, and sewing. Dorothy was a Girl Scout leader, she played piano for Sunday School, and was a member of the Queensbury Senior Center, Glens Falls Senior Center and R.S.V.P. Mom loved a good party and a had a great sense of humor. She was a fantastic and loving mother and grandmother.

She enjoyed her trips to Hawaii, Mexico, Alaska, Canada, Las Vegas and Bermuda.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, John; a sister, Mildred Kiley; and a brother, Mickey Schmidt.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Virginia Knickerbocker, and Carol (Joel) Friers; grandchildren, Kristin Friers, and Heather (Ted) Cumm; great-grandchild, Ava Grace Cumm; a sister, Audrey (Arthur) Rubin of P.A; also, several nieces, nephews, and cousins that are throughout the country.

Per Dorothy's request, there will be no calling hours.

Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to Dr. Suzanne Blood, The Terrace, Home of the Good Shepherd in Moreau, hospice, and Glens Falls Hospital for all their kindness, care, and compassion. Thank you to all friends and family who supported mom through this difficult time.
