Obituary

QUEENSBURY --- Earl Thomas "Tom" Philo, 77, of Queensbury, passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2013, in the comfort of his home with his loving wife by his side.
Born Sept. 5, 1935, in Albany, he was the son of the late Elmer and Irene (Sweet) Philo.
Tom attended RPI in Troy for two years following high school graduation.
He was a bricklayer and mason by trade and taught the trade at B.O.C.E.S.
On Feb. 2, 1964, he married Evelyn Bannon. They celebrated 49 years together.
Tom served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War conflict as a medic as well as on the U.S.S. Randolph Air Craft Carrier as a Navy Corpsman. He was also a member of the 646 Medical Co. New York Army National Guard and held the rank of Sergeant.
Tom was active in many fraternal organizations including Shriners, Queensbury Masonic Lodge No. 121 Free and Accepted Masons and Shriners, Queensbury B.P.O.E. Lodge No. 81, Queensbury American Legion Post No. 1797, and Queensbury V.F.W. Post No. 6196.
He loved playing golf at Cronin's Golf Course in Warrensburg and riding his BSA motorcycle.
In addition to his parents, Tom was predeceased by his son, Tommy Philo, a sister, Mary Philo, a brother, William Philo, a sister-in-law, Joan Bannon, and a brother-in-law, Walter Davidson.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Philo; his sister, Ethel Davidson; two sisters-in-law, Carol Stockman and Joyce Bannon; four brothers-in-law, Gordon Stockman, and Ronald, Edward, and Donald Bannon; as well as many other family members.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to all the doctors and nursing staff at Glens Falls Hospital who assisted with Tom's care all those years, and a special thank you to Dr. Mihindu for his compassion, love, and care throughout this difficult time.
Friends may call upon the family Sunday, July 21, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury. Queensbury Masonic Lodge No. 121 Free and Accepted Masons and Shriners will perform a brief ceremony at 4 p.m. during the calling hours, followed by a brief ceremony by Queensbury American Legion Post No. 1797 and Queensbury V.F.W. Post No. 6196. Queensbury B.P.O.E. Lodge No. 81 will also conduct a Lodge of Sorrow at 4:30 p.m. during the calling hours.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, July 22, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Warren St., Glens Falls, with the Rev. Joseph Manerowski officiating. Bagpipes will be performed by Gerald Cashion.
Burial, with military honors, will follow at Pine View Cemetery, Quaker Rd., Queensbury.
