QUEENSBURY --- Edwin J. Simmons, 87, passed away Thursday, October 12, 2023, with loved ones by his side.
Born April 15, 1936, in Brooklyn, he was the son of Edwin Michael and Virginia Earle (Herald) Simmons.
Edwin graduated from high school and went on to attend college for a few years. He worked as a Detective for the Suffolk County Police Department for many years.
Edwin married Kathleen on July 29, 1977, in Babylon, New York.
Some of his enjoyments in life were hunting, photography, golf, and sailing. Edwin was the cofounder and first president of Suffolk County Retired Detectives Association, and a proud member of SCP Emerald Society, South Bay Cruising Club, and the Retired Police Association of State of New York, Inc.
In addition to his parents, Edwin was predeceased by his grandparents, John Simmons and Julia Finley.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Kathleen A. Simmons of Queensbury; children, James Simmons of Lindenhurst, Kelly Lynch of Islip, and Michael Simmons of South Glens Falls; grandchildren, Krystal, Candace, Jenna, Cass Simmons of South Glens Falls, Katelyn Simmons of South Glens Falls, and Kiera Simmons of South Glens Falls; great-grandchildren, Leah, Alaina, and Benjamin of Townsend; sister, Audrey Eyerman of New Jersey; and nieces, Donna Eyerman and Kim (Jim) Goryeb, both of New Jersey.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, October 17 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, NY 12804.
A funeral service will follow at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Scott Vanderveer officiating.
The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to the EMTs and staff at Glens Falls Hospital for their kindness and caring during our medical problems.
