May 1, 1923 — Feb 19, 2024
NORTH CREEK --- Elizabeth Huckin Armstrong, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2024. She was born in Nanuet, N.Y. on May 1, 1923, to Charles and Marie Huckin. She was raised in Englewood, N.J. and graduated from Dwight Morrow High School in 1940. She then went onto the Katharine Gibbs School in N.Y.C.
Betty was an Executive Secretary at Shortline Bus Company in Mahwah, N.J. from 1964 until 1979, where she met her husband Ret. Lt. Colonel Albert B. Armstrong in 1969. They married on June 6, 1970, and shared 34 wonderful years together. They lived in Franklin Lakes, N.J. until Al's retirement in 1987. At that time, they moved to St. Augustine, Fla. and enjoyed their boat and waterfront home. After Al's death Betty moved to the Adirondacks to be near her family in 2006.
Betty & Al traveled extensively to all 7 continents and most of the 50 states. They saw Europe several times; China, New Zealand, Australia, Fiji, Tahiti, Kenya on safari, Antarctica, Hawaii and Alaska. Al wasn't one for outdoor chores, so Betty did all of the gardening and yardwork. She kindly fired a lawn boy that Al had hired for her. She continued to push mow her lawn into her early 90's. Betty was an avid reader and owned thousands of books. She had a book in her lap until the day she passed away.
Betty is predeceased by her parents, her adoring husband Al, her only child John Williams Sr., her sister Jane Reed and several dogs. She is survived by her grandchildren John (April) Williams of Olmstedville, Jennifer (Gordon) Smith of North Creek, Charly (Joseph) Wojtysiak of Bath, Maine, Thomas (Nicole) Williams of Queensbury and Leo (Christine) Williams of Olmstedville; her great-grandchildren Austin & Cheyenne Williams, Clayton Smith and Bailey & Thomas Williams and her daughter-in-law Darlene Duffy of Olmstedville.
There will be no calling hours. Interment will be at the Poplar Grove Cemetery in Phillipsport, N.Y. next to her husband at the convenience of the family.
Donations may be made to St. Jude's, the ASPCA or any animal rescue you choose.
The family would like to thank the staff at Elderwood in North Creek for her exceptional care, especially Yvonne and the staff on Unit B. Betty always wanted to make it to 95 years young and made it to 100 years & 9.5 months! We were all blessed to have her for so long. Rest easy with your loved ones, Grandma.
