QUEENSBURY --- Elizabeth "Betty" J. Hogan-Duell, 91, of Queensbury Ave., Queensbury, passed away Tuesday, April 3, 2013 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was the oldest person in her neighborhood.
Born September 29, 1921, in Queensbury, she was the daughter of William H. and Elizabeth (Jensen) Hogan.
She graduated from St. Mary's Academy, class of 1940 and also attended Aviation School on Warren St. learning blueprint, fabrication, welding, riveting, and bucking rivets.
Betty was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Glens Falls. During the war she was employed by General Electric Radio Dept. in Schenectady, and later by General Electric in Fort Edward. When she left G.E. she was in quality control.
On April 20, 1947, she married Donald L. Duell of Bolton Landing, son of Byron and Edna (Lewis) Duell at St. Mary's Academy. They were married for 59 ½ years.
While spending winter months at home in Florida, Betty was playing golf at Cypress Links in St. Petersburg, and hit a "hole-in-one." In New York, she ran Bay Meadows Ladies League for several years. She loved spending time with her family and friends, gardening, and playing cards. Betty also enjoyed all of God's creations, as well as traveling to Florida and various casinos.
In addition to her parents, Betty was predeceased by her husband, Donald Duell, who passed away Oct. 1, 2006, and by her sister, Elsie C. Brennan.
Survivors include her son, William H. Duell and his wife, Shannon, of Glens Falls; granddaughter, Krista M. (Bobby) Sullivan of Salem; two great-grandsons, Brady Hogan Nichols of Salem and Landon J. Sullivan of Salem, and great-granddaughter Kendall Jensen Elizabeth Sullivan; daughter-in-law and caregiver, Frances Duell of Queensbury; two nieces, Karen (Timothy) Mousseau and Marcia (Thomas) Tyminski, both of Queensbury; a cousin, Eva Brown of Queensbury, and also several additional cousins, great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends.
At her request, there will be no calling hours or funeral.
A graveside service, with military honors, for both Betty and her husband, Don, will take place Wednesday, April 17, at 3 p.m. at Pine View Cemetery, Quaker Rd., Queensbury, with the Rev. Lamont Robinson officiating.
A gathering to celebrate Don and Betty's life will take place at 4 p.m. following graveside service at South Queensbury Fire Co., 409 Dix Ave. Queensbury.
