QUEENSBURY --- Elona "Loni" Marie Gebo, 77, of Surrey Fields Dr., passed away after a long courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at her home, with her loving family by her side.
Born in Chicago, Illinois on September 12, 1940, she was the daughter of Steven and Hedvig (Babiracki) Benchik.
On August 8, 1964, Loni married Roger Gebo in Newton Falls, N.Y.
Loni had the privilege of being a homemaker. Some of her enjoyments included entertaining her family and friends, spending time with her grandchildren, Jacob, Nick, and Sam, activities at Queensbury Senior Citizen's Center, reading, shopping, and decorating.
Loni was predeceased by her parents and grandparents.
Those left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband of 53 years, Roger Gebo of Queensbury; a daughter and son, Jodi (Robert) Chester of Smithfield, N.C., and Jay (Suzanne) Gebo of Wilton, N.Y.; grandchildren, Jacob, Nicholas, and Samuel Gebo; a brother, Steven Benchik of Webster, N.Y.; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Calling hours will take place Sunday, July 8, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, NY 12804.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Monday, July 9, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Glens Falls.
A committal service will follow at Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to Dr. Darci Gaiotti-Grubbs, Nikole Delair, PA-C, and staff at the Cancer Center at Glens Falls Hospital for their unrelenting compassion and continuous care. Also, the family would like to express their tremendous gratitude to High Peaks Hospice for their professionalism, experience, and most importantly their grace and kindness during Loni's palliative care. Many thanks also to Loni's friends and family, especially her daughter, Jodi Chester, and daughter-in-law, Suzanne Gebo, for providing loving support and around-the-clock comfort care.
