Obituary

HARTFORD --- Elroy Robert Howk, 83, a former resident of Hadlock Pond, Fort Ann passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at his home in Hartford.
Born April 6, 1929 in Fort Ann he was the son of the late Bert and Claire Louella (Stoddard) Howk.
Roy attended Fort Ann School until he enlisted in the U.S. Navy on January 5, 1948 at the age of 18 where he served until June 5, 1950. He proudly earned his GED in 1968. After he was honorably discharged he worked as a logger until he went to work at The Imperial which later became Hercules and then Ciba-Geigy. He retired from Ciba-Geigy when the plant closed in 1989. Roy then decided to follow his hobby and became a construction contractor working small jobs for many people in the area. Throughout his life, he loved to help any of his friends who were working on projects within their homes. He also built every home his family lived in.
Roy was a life member of VFW Post No. 6196 in Queensbury.
On December 1, 1951 he married the love of his life June Louise Palmer. They celebrated 52 years together before her passing in July 2003.
Besides his parents and his wife, Roy was predeceased by his sister Alma Fredette and his seven brothers, Albert, George, Kenneth, Edward, Myron, Edson, and Philip.
Survivors include a brother, Judson Howk of Las Vegas, his six children, Sandra and her husband Joseph Congel of Queensbury, Paul and his wife Laurie of Waldorf Maryland, Brian and his wife Dawn of Wilton, Terry and his wife Connie of Queensbury, Tim and his wife Cori of Queensbury and Phyllis Howk of Hartford; his 16 grandchildren, Scott Congel, Jaime Bassett, Jennifer Hendrex, Justina Westhead, Marissa Howk, Matthew Howk, Alex Howk, Natalie Howk, Kelly Dickinson, Jodi Howk, Rebecca Reynolds, Christopher Howk, Adam Howk, Andrew LaPlanche, Daniel Howk and Nicholas Howk, 9 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Washington County Hospice & Palliative Care, 415 Lower Main Street, Hudson Falls, NY 12839.
Friends may call upon the family Friday, July 27, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury.
A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Flossie Gage Bates officiating.
