Obituary

QUEENSBURY — Erna Arzberger, 93, passed away on Wednesday, December 3, 2025.

Born September 18, 1932, in Brooklyn, NY, Erna was the daughter of Frederick and Marie (Doerzbacher) Bus.

Erna graduated from Grover Cleveland High School in Queens, NY. Her family moved to the Lake Luzerne area to run their family-owned restaurant, The Hitching Post. She went on to work at the Queensbury School District for several years before taking a job at Sears Roebuck and Company. Erna stayed at Sears for 30+ years working throughout the store and eventually coordinating the Human Resources Office for the Queensbury location.

Erna's husband of 72 years was Adolph "Ed" Arzberger, whom she married on May 3, 1953, in Queens, NY. He predeceased Erna by four short months in July 2025. Erna was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Glens Falls. She volunteered many hours to the church as an usher and office aid. After her retirement from Sears, Erna enjoyed volunteering for UNICEF and the soup kitchen. Her special volunteer position was at Glens Falls Hospital, where she would escort patients, check in visitors, and deliver flowers throughout the facility. Erna enjoyed golfing and bowling with her husband. They made a lot of memories with friends over the years on the course and in the bowling alleys. One of Erna's most "athletic" moments was when she had the honor to run and carry the torch for the 1980 Olympics as it was on its way to Lake Placid for the games.

Erna and Ed had a remarkable marriage and life. They truly lived the American Dream of working hard, saving well, staying the course and living a simple, comfortable life. They enjoyed trips to Germany, Alaska, Hawaii, Nova Scotia, the Bahamas, Florida, Colorado, and their favorite place, Maine. Their primary love was their family and each other. Erna was a loving, supportive, and devoted wife to Ed and a steady presence for her entire family. She never forgot a birthday or an occasion and was very thoughtful of everyone she knew.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Steve and Pam Arzberger, and Diane and Craig Goodman; her grandchildren, Eric and Meaghan Arzberger, Justin and Lindsay Arzberger, Sasha and Maddie Goodman, Alena Goodman, and Brian and Erin Williams. Erna was overjoyed and thrilled to spend time with her great grandchildren - Elliot, Cooper, Isla, Hallie, and Gus. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews including a special nephew, Ed Bus.

Visitation for Erna will take place on Friday, December 12, 2025, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, NY. A memorial prayer service will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Patrick Wrisley officiating.
