Obituary

QUEENSBURY – Etta L. Farleigh, 89, passed on to her eternal home peacefully, at Fort Hudson Nursing Center on April 2, 2018, after an 18 year struggle with pulmonary fibrosis.

Etta was born to MaryEtta and Edmund Annis in Peru, NY on October 2, 1928.  Her parents and 15 sisters and brothers have predeceased her. She is also predeceased by her husband, Richard Farleigh.

Etta graduated from Peru Central School in 1945. Following that she went to nursing school at Booth Memorial Hospital in NYC. It was there she began her nursing career following graduation. In 1950, she married Richard Farleigh who she met in Plattsburgh, NY.  She moved to Ridgefield, NJ where she lived for several years.  In 1956, she and Richard moved their family to Glens Falls. In 1968, she and Richard became owners of Spotlight Printing, where she assisted in the daily operations until her husband's unexpected death in 1972.

Etta went on to a nursing position at Fort Hudson Nursing Center, where she worked for many years.

Among her many enjoyments were bowling, camping, Shirley Temple movies, and panning for gold.

Her faith was an important part of her life and she attended First Baptist in SGF for many years, where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir.

She is survived by her sons, Donald (Eileen) and Franklyn (Cindy); her granddaughters, Lynetta Farleigh (Mike Farrell) and Meghan (James) Grimmer; her great grandchildren, Camryn and Jack, and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Monday, April 30, from 4 to 6 p.m., followed immediately by a memorial service at 6 p.m. led by the Rev. Bill Church, at Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury.

Burial at Pine View Cemetery is private.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial gifts in Etta's memory, be made to Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, 230 East Ohio St., Suite 500, Chicago, IL 60611 or to The Salvation Army, 37 Broad St., Glens Falls, NY 12801.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Gara and his staff, Doctors Nevatia and Monn, as well as the caring staff at Fort Hudson Nursing Center, her special aide Shannon, and her mailman, John Richichi, for all of his extra help over the years and his visits with his dog which meant so much to Etta, and especially Cindy Vaughan, who went above and beyond in all she did.
