Queensbury --- Evelyn "Evie" F. George, 72, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at Glens Falls Hospital following a courageous fight with cancer.
Born November 14, 1940 in Glens Falls, NY. She was the daughter of the late Francis and Minnie (Campney) Nobert. Evie graduated from Glens Falls High School, Class of 1958.
On October 2, 1997, she married Robert "Bob" A. George. For 28 years, she worked as an Administrative Assistant at the Queensbury School District, before retiring in 2002.
Evie enjoyed her home projects, inside and out, as well as overnight trips with her husband, Bob, and weekly shopping trips with her best friend, Emma. Most of all, she loved being a part of her children and grandchildren's lives. She also enjoyed bowling, playing cards, knitting, bicycling, and reading.
Survivors include her beloved husband, Robert George of Queensbury, NY; her three daughters, Nancy Morrissey and her husband, Dave, of Queensbury, NY, Connie Lewis and her husband, Reid, of Steamboat Springs, CO, and Judi Stento and her husband, Paul, of Delmar, NY; her son, Bill McCormick and his wife, Lauren Giusti, of Salida, CO; six grandchildren, Jessica and Allyce Morrissey, Emily, Lindsey, and Matthew Stento, and Mia McCormick; stepchildren, Andy George of Queensbury, NY and Heather George of Lake George, NY; three sisters, Marie Matt of Queensbury, NY, Norma McMillan and her husband, Paul, of West Chester, PA, and Lori Palmer and her husband, Vincent, of Seminole, FL; as well as several nieces and nephews, many brothers and sisters-in-laws, and her longtime friends, Emma Liporace and Jeanne Philo.
Friends may call upon the family Wednesday, April 24, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, NY. A funeral service will take place at the funeral home on Thursday, April 25, at 10 a.m. with Sister Donna Irvine, Glens Falls Hospital Chaplain officiating. Burial will follow at Pine View Cemetery, Quaker Rd., Queensbury, NY. Evie's family suggests that contributions in her honor be sent to the Charles R. Wood Cancer Center, 100 Park Street, Glens Falls, NY 12801. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Dr. Aqeel Gillani and Donna Boss at the Oncology Dept. at the C. R. Wood Cancer Center and their staff, as well as High Peaks Hospice and Palliative Care Inc.
