CAMBRIDGE --- Floyd Gleason, age 86, of Mountain View Drive, Cambridge, passed away Saturday, June 16, 2012 at his home in Cambridge with his devoted caregivers by his side.
Born Sept. 27, 1925 in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Clifford R. and Helen I. (LaPoint) Gleason.
For many years, Floyd lived in homes established for the developmentally disabled, homes that fostered independent living.
Floyd was a very out going person and friendly to all. He loved to talk. If he once got your ear, you were hooked. All requests to God will have to be put on hold. Floyd will have all His attention.
In addition to his parents, Floyd was predeceased by five brothers, Clifford, Raymond, Robert, Richard, and Thomas Scott Gleason, a sister, Marjorie Langdon, and also a baby sister who died at birth.
Survivors include his brother, Fred Gleason and his wife, Jean, of Queensbury; a sister, Barbara DeGroff and her husband, Bruce, of Hudson, NH; a sister-in-law, Sally Gleason of South Glens Falls; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday, June 20, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette Street, Queensbury. At his request, there will be no funeral service.
A committal service will follow the calling hour at 11 a.m. at the Mt. Herman Cemetery on the corner of West Mountain Road and Luzerne Road, Queensbury, with the Rev. Virginia Cornell, pastor of The Stump United Methodist Church of Cambridge, officiating.
The family wishes to extend their deepest appreciation to the entire ARC staff and state individuals who cared for and befriended Floyd for so many years. His life was so enriched. They would also like to extend a special thank you to all of the staff at the Cambridge home who provided the wonderful care, friendship, and genuine love to Floyd in his final years.
