LAKE GEORGE -- Francis Landy Patton "Pat" Gilmour, 76, of Lake George, NY died February 16, 2013 at Glens Falls Hospital with his family by his side, after a year and a half courageous battle with cancer. He resided at Top of the World in Lake George.
Pat was born February 27, 1936 in Philadelphia, Penn.
Pat graduated Dickinson College, 1959 and pursued an MBA at Penn University's Wharton School of business. He met and married his former wife, Marjorie Dorn Gilmour while in Graduate school, and the couple relocated to the Albany area. He worked as an executive at Dorn's Transportation. Later Pat joined Merrill Lynch, at the State Street Albany branch before forming the partnership, Gilmour & Reid, a discount stock brokerage, on Wolf Road in Albany. After years of commuting to Albany, Mr. Gilmour relocated his business to Glens Falls and formed Gilmour & Associates, also a discount brokerage, in which he operated until retirement in 2002.
Having had a home in Lake George since 1972, he enjoyed salmon and lake trout fishing on the Lake and was an avid golfer, with former memberships at Wolfert's Roost and Glens Falls Country Club.
He was preceded in death by his father William Rodger Gilmour, MD, and mother Marjorie Roach-Gilmour, MD, as well as his two brothers Roger and George Gilmour.
He is survived by and his two children: David Gilmour his wife Elizabeth Duncan-Gilmour of New Paltz and Elizabeth Gilmour of Jackson, WY. He is also survived by his six grandchildren; Elijah, Caroline, Thomas and Nathanial Duncan Gilmour of New Paltz and Avery and Addison Binstadt of Jackson, Wy. He is also survived by his former wife Marjorie Dorn Gilmour,
All who knew him know his biggest joy was his grandchildren, and made every effort to spend as much time with them as he could. Besides his grandchildren and gastronomy he took an interest in ancient American culture, traveling extensively around the southwest, spending considerable time in Tucson, AZ, reading, sudoku, bridge, crossword puzzles and watching basketball. He enjoyed traveling, especially to places known for their wildlife, history or cuisine. And was in Tucson and Wyoming as recently as this fall. He was fond of all animals domestic and wild. He thoroughly enjoyed his time at Dickinson College, and stayed friendly with his friends from that period of his life. His sense of humor was to many the quality that defined him. He laughed easily and often, and in recent months as his illness became worse, his sense of humor prevailed.
Friends may call upon the family Thursday, February 21, from 4 to 5 p.m. at Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury.
A celebration of his life is planned for Thursday, February 21, at 5 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Flossie Gage Bates officiating.
There will be a private family ceremony gathering at a point subsequent.
