Kattskill Bay, NY - Fred S. Pflaum, 78, passed away peacefully at his home in the place he loved best, Lake George, NY. He was a cherished husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend, and his presence will be deeply missed.

Fred was born in the Bronx, NY on July 28, 1948, to Henry and Peggy Pflaum. Fred was a true renaissance man. As a teenager, he excelled at soccer, waterskiing, and held his high school record in pole vaulting for many years. He attended undergraduate school at SUNY Albany, New York and then was a member of the first graduating law school class at Nova Southeastern University in Florida. He began his working years as a middle school English teacher and then pursued a career as a criminal attorney, eventually building a successful practice in Sarasota, Florida. He was also an Assistant State Attorney and the only male charter member of the Sarasota chapter of the Florida Association for Women Lawyers. Fred was incredibly community minded; he was a member of the Siesta Key chapter of the Sertoma and was elected President of Temple Sinai during their first major capital building campaign.

After retiring, Fred pursued a long list of passions including: becoming a sea captain and living aboard his trawler Henry’s Journey; exploring his artistic creativity as a dedicated woodworker; continuing his athleticism with triathlons and golf; following his excitement for entrepreneurial adventure, including Penguin Pete’s shave ice, the Inovo Pizza Grill, and Whirlygigz drone photography; and finally, perfecting his love of the guitar and starting his first band, Old Dogs New Tricks. His integrity, unbridled pursuit of adventure, and loving spirit brightened the lives of all who knew him.

Fred is survived by his wife, Linda Pflaum; his children, David and Ali Pflaum; his sister and brother, Marjorie and Dave Pflaum; his grandsons, Abe and Jai; his large extended family and an incredible community of friends.

A funeral will be held at 12:00pm on Tuesday, September 22, 2026 at noon at Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette Street, Queensbury, NY followed by a gathering at his home in Lake George.
