Queensbury – Fredrick George Gleason, passed away at the age of 88 with loved ones by his side on Sunday, April 6, 2025, at the Glens Falls Hospital.
Born November 3, 1936, in Glens Falls, N.Y. He was the son of Clifford and Helen Gleason. He graduated high school in 1954, enlisted in the Air Force from 1957 – 1961, and later graduated from the University of Wyoming in 1969.
He was a devoted son and an advocate for his brother "Floydy" which led him to become a volunteer for the mentally disabled. Fred married Jean Eggleston and resided in West Glens Falls. Shortly after, he retired from Nibco with 25 years of service. Fred was often seen working in his garden and soon "the corner of Richardson & Main" would become a popular spot admired by many.
Fred spent many of his younger days hiking in the Adirondacks and biking local trails. He enjoyed singing Barbershop quartet, line dancing, and acting in local theater. He was most proud of obtaining his pilot license. He loved sharing the many mischievous adventures he had with his brother, Scott. As he grew older these adventures would continue in annual camping trips with his nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife; he is predeceased by brothers, Robert, Dick, Clifford Raymond, Floyd, and Scott; as well as a sister, Marjorie.
Those left to cherish his memory include his sister, Barbara DeGroff; sister in-laws, Sally Gleason, and Betty (Seth) Wilcox; grandchildren, Tina Pound and Rachel Hill; great grandchildren, Lori, Emmalee, Brody, Grace, Rogan, Miloh, Selene; a great grand-niece, Marjorie Jane; and many nieces and nephews. The family would also like to acknowledge his loving friend, Katherine Meinke - a friendship that lasted a lifetime.
His nieces: Kay, Merrie Jo, and Kelli would like to thank the Washington Center in Argyle for the care they provided Fred in the past year. Also to the ER and ICU staff at the Glens Falls Hospital for the comfort you gave Fred and the emotional support you showed the family during his passing.
Burial will be private, and donations can be made in his honor to St. Jude , 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 .
