Obituary

GLENS FALLS -- Garylee Berry, 55, passed away peacefully at his Glens Falls home Tuesday, September 27, 2016.

Born May 14, 1961 in Bentwaters, England, he was the son of Jody T. Berry of Penacook, NH and Patricia A. (Barker) Berry of Queensbury, NY. Garylee was a very well-known chef in the area and will be sadly missed by all.

Gary grew up traveling the world with his family as his father was in the Air Force. He graduated from Plattsburgh High School and Johnson & Wales University in Providence, RI with a degree in Culinary Arts. He started his career at the Lake George Club in 1978, and spent many years working at the Sagamore Resort in Bolton Landing, NY and other local restaurants.

His smile, laugh, and booming voice filled the room. Gary taught many people about the culinary arts, he wanted to share his craft with anyone that would listen. Many will remember him from his Smokin' Hiney Hot Sauce, his chili at Bands n' Beans, and from the Taste of the North Country. Gary loved Boston sports teams and going to the local hockey games.

Gary and his wife, Mary Lou (Severance) Berry, just celebrated their 34th wedding anniversary. In addition to his wife, he is survived by their only child, Jennifer Berry-Youngs and her husband, Jim of Florida, NY along with his loyal dogs, Emma, Saffron, and Isabel. He is also survived by his parents; two sisters, Kathleen Berry Gosselin (Daniel) of Spartanburg, SC and Sandra Shappy (Ronald) of Grand Isle, VT; his mother-in-law, Elizabeth Severance; two brothers-in-law, John Severance III (Carrie) of Athens, NY and Randy Severance (Cindy) of Queensbury, NY; his great uncle, Roger 'Hoot' Berry; three uncles, Michael Berry (Gerardo Ramirez), Ronald Cicero (Peggy), and Robert Cicero (Joyce); nieces and nephews include Sonya Woodworth (Jason), Aaron Gosselin, Brandi Jollie (Justin), Jamie Sanborn (Chris), John Severance IV, Evan Severance, Heather Severance (Anthony Marra), Austin Shappy, and Julienne Gosselin (Andy Ripley); as well as several grand-nieces and nephews.

Gary was predeceased by his grandparents; two uncles, Alan Barker and James Berry; and his father-in-law, John B. Severance.

The family will host a celebration of life at a later date.
