Obituary

TROY AND QUEENSBURY--- George A. Laiacona Sr., 91, of Troy and most recently of Queensbury, passed away Tues, October 8, 2013, at Fulton Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare in Johnstown.
Born Feb. 25, 1922, in Little Italy, South Troy, NY, a twin to Francis, and son of the late Nicola and Santa (Formica) Laiacona.
George was the youngest of six children and the last of the first generation born in Troy. He attended school at St. Anthony's and Catholic High.
On Thanksgiving of 1943, George married Faith Rose Dutcher (Mar. 17, 1918 – Mar. 19, 2013). Together they resided on Valley View Drive until 2008 when they were both moved to Assisted Living at the home of his stepson Ronald A. Barth, until they had to be moved to the Fulton Center in Gloversville.
He worked performing War Plant Work during WWII, before giving 40 years of his life as a Teamster for A.J. Rinella, and Co. at Menands Regional Market. George was an active supporter of men's and youth groups of Our Lady of Victory Parish as well as Boy Scouts of America Scout Master for many years, even after his own boys graduated from the program.
George was always known for his charitable contributions to many of the Tri City Region's underprivileged institutions.
He loved fishing and hunting, and at times would take several children on fishing and hunting trips.
In addition to his parents, George is predeceased by his loving wife of 69 years, Faith R. Laiacona, and a brother, Frank Laiacona.
He is survived by his four sons, Ronald, George Jr., Francis, and Arthur; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff at Fulton Center for all their care, compassion, and support.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, October 12, at 10 am at St. Mary's Cemetery, Troy.
