QUEENSBURY --- George F. Rohrwasser, 95, formerly of Walker Lane and most recently of The Landing, Queensbury, passed away Friday, June 8, 2012 at Albany Medical Center with his loving family by his side.
Born August 26, 1916 in Latham, NY, he was the son of the late Frederick and Sarah (Tennyson) Rohrwasser.
Following graduation from Troy High School, George attended Union College and Albany Business College.
He married Ruth Brown March 1, 1952 at the Cohoes United Methodist Church.
George worked for General Electric in Fort Edward before retiring in 1979 after many years of dedicated service.
George had the privilege of traveling all 50 states, the Caribbean, and Europe searching family records.
He was always a willing volunteer when needed, serving in many organizations, including being a member of Queensbury Seniors, Glens Falls Seniors, North Country Chapter AARP No. 3891, Glens Falls B.P.O.E. Lodge No. 81, Queensbury Masonic Lodge No. 121, Warrensburg Chapter Royal Arch. Masons No. 325, Office of Aging Council. George was also a member of Glens Falls Golden Kiwanis until it dissolved into Senior Center of Glens Falls Seniors, a member of Christ Church United Methodist since 1956, and a charter member of Northeastern Genealogical Society.
In addition to his parents, George was predeceased by his loving wife of 55 years, Ruth E. Rohrwasser, and two children, Steven and Barbara Rohrwasser.
Survivors include his devoted daughter-in-law, Linda Rohrwasser of East Greenbush; two granddaughters, Megan Rohrwasser of Boston, Mass., and Sara Rohrwasser of Pittsfield, Mass.; two great-grandchildren, Gianna and Henry; and many dear friends.
There will be one hour of calling, Tuesday, June 12, from 10 to 11 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. at the Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, with the Rev. Phil Richards, pastor of Christ Church United Methodist, officiating.
Burial will follow at Chester Rural Cemetery, Chestertown.
