FORT EDWARD --- George August Schwab, 88, passed away at his home on Friday, March 6, 2026, with loved ones by his side.
Born April 4, 1937, in North Bergen, New Jersey, he was the son of Joseph and Johanna (Mersberger) Schwab.
George graduated from Leonia High School in June of 1956. He went on to serve in the Army National Guard during the Korean War, from 1956-1957. George married Kathleen Raimondo on October 24, 1964.
George worked as a truck driver for Two Guys in East Hanover, New Jersey as well as many other companies. He was also an EMT, firefighter and fire police for various organizations including Teaneck Ambulance, Lodi Ambulance, Rockaway Neck First Aid Squad in Parsippany, New Jersey, Lake Hiawatha Fire Department and Manitou Park Fire Police.
In addition to his parents, George was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Kathleen (Raimondo) Schwab; grandson, Nicholas Mayer; brother, John Schwab; and sisters-in-law, Beverly Schwab and Karen Raimondo; as well as his beloved dog, Coco.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children, JoAnne Mayer and Lynda Goble of Fort Edward; grandchildren, Timothy Schwab of South Glens Falls, Mark Mayer, Jr. of Brick, New Jersey, and Sierra Mayer of Toms River, New Jersey; brother, Joseph "Jerry" Schwab; sister-in-law, Patricia Schwab; brothers-in-law, Carl Raimondo (Sharon) and Billy Raimondo; also several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held in the Spring.
The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to Community Hospice, especially Vicki, Karen, Tom and Geri, for all of their care and compassion.
