HUDSON FALLS --- George D. Shoemaker III, 61, of Hudson Falls, passed away Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012 at his daughter's home in Hudson Falls, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born Feb. 4, 1951 in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late George D. and Viola E. (Hall) Shoemaker.
George graduated from Queensbury High School. He was a member of the Local Plumber and Pipe fitter Union No. 773 in South Glens Falls, retiring from Scott Paper Tissue Co., and then working for various places as a steamfitter.
Some of his enjoyments included hunting, fishing, and spending time with his dog, Daisy. He also liked crossword puzzles, furniture restoration, and metal crafting.
George enlisted in the United States Army Aug. 2, 1971, being stationed in Texas and Germany, and honorably discharged Feb. 15, 1974.
Survivors include his daughter, Christina Shoemaker and her fiancé, Mark Midleton, of Hudson Falls; five stepchildren, Dennis Dilorenzo of Fla., Toni Dilorenzo of Queensbury, Lori Dilorenzo also of Queensbury, Dean Dilorenzo of Wilton, and George Dilorenzo of Calif.; two grandchildren, Katlynn and Alexis Lefebvre; 11 step grandchildren, Michael Dilorenzo, Sierra Dilorenzo, Colton Suttle, Melissa Girard, Sean, Ben, and Dylan Purner, Sixx Dilorenzo, Valentino Dilorenzo, and Alexis and Lindsey Middleton; two step great-grandchildren, Appleonia Girard, and Austin Wilson; two sisters, Sandra Shoemaker and her husband, Edward Saxton, of Saratoga, and Mary Shoemaker (George Moses) of Glens Falls; four cousins, Arthur J. Storbeck of New Jersey, Janet Hayes and Patricia Purdell, both of Amsterdam, NY, and Clifford C. Hall of Niskayuna; and his daughter's mother, Jean Shoemaker of Hudson Falls.
At his request, there will be no calling hours or funeral service.
Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family at Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Duell Rd., Schuylerville.
Friends are invited to join family members to celebrate George's life on Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012, from 3 to 6 p.m., at the American Legion Post No. 574, 72 Pearl St., Hudson Falls, NY 12839.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of a donation, in loving memory of George, to Washington County Hospice, 415 Lower Main St., Hudson Falls, NY 12839.
