Queensbury - It is with sadness, and a sense of peace, that we announce the passing of our dad, Gerald (Jerry) Lyons. Following a year of an unexpected decline in health, Jerry passed peacefully at Van Rensselaer Manor (VRM) in Troy, NY. He was supported by his loving family and many caring healthcare providers. Anyone who knew Jerry had the good fortune to experience his kind manner. 

Born on April 6, 1936 in New Haven, CT to Ida (Bloomingdale) and Thomas Lyons. His only sibling, Tommy ("Junior") was born with cerebral palsy. Jerry was always a devoted brother and caregiver. He was predeceased by his parents and brother. 

Jerry completed his school years in Glens Falls, NY, and had a long career in the grocery business. He started at A&P Tea Company in 1952. He held many management positions at various A&P stores, and with private grocers: Barber's Markets and Sokol's Market. He retired in 2008, from a part-time position at Hannaford Supermarket in Glens Falls. 

Jerry was always meticulous with any and all endeavors. He was well known and sought after for his wallpaper hanging craftsmanship. Many homes were beautified by his work. 

In his younger adult years, Jerry enjoyed the comradery of his cousins from Rhode Island and outings with coworkers and friends. Some of his hobbies included bowling, camping, collecting and refinishing antique furniture. He was a fan of the Yankees. 

On April 5, 1964, Jerry married his love, Marianne Jones. They were devoted to each other for 53 years, before Marianne's sudden passing in December 2017. Together, they enjoyed the activities of their children and grandkids. They shared lots of laughs and fun times with couple friends, and neighbors. Both Jerry and Marianne are remembered and loved by their children, Kathy DiFiore (Chris), Kevin Lyons (Sheri), and Todd Lyons; grandchildren: Patrick and Aaron DiFiore, Katelyn and Ashley Lyons, and Benjamin, Cameron and Lily Lyons. 

Despite the many health related hardships Jerry experienced over the past year, the journey allowed him and his family to meet many caring people. A special thank you to the devoted team at VRM, especially the B1 unit, and Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital, the TBI unit. 

For those who wish to make a charitable donation in memory of Gerald Lyons, suggestions include St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and The Community Hospice of Albany, NY, or to a charity of one's choice. 

A private burial, be held at a future date at Pineview Cemetery in Queensbury.
