Obituary

Gerard G. La Croix of Kingsbury, NY, husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather and friend passed away on March 9, 2026 at the age of 94 years. Born in the Ossining Hospital on January 20, 1932, he was the son of Constance W. (Starling) & Maurice F. J. La Croix. He was married for 65-1/2 years to the love of his life Priscilla (Taber), formally of Bedford Hills, NY. “Rod,” as all knew him, lived in the Ossining/Briarcliff Manor area of NY for 76 years until 2008 when he and Priscilla moved to Kingsbury where they built their dream retirement log home.

A graduate of Ossining High School (the INDIANS) in 1950, he attended Saint Lawrence University, graduating in 1954 as a member of the Sigma Pi Fraternity. Following graduation, Rod proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1955 until his honorable discharge in 1957 with the rank of First lieutenant. He served in Fort Knox, KY, and then with the 6th Tank Battalion in Korea during the Korean War.

After his tour with the military, he worked for twenty years with General Precision Laboratories (GPL)/Singer Corporation in Pleasantville, NY. It was shortly after arriving home from Korea and working at GPL that he met Priscilla and they married. He later was employed by the New York Medical College (Valhalla, NY), Perkin-Elmer (Danbury, CT), and eventually retired in 1993 after serving four years as the Receiver of Taxes for the Town of Ossining.

He was a loyal and dedicated member of Independent Hose Company No. 6 of the Ossining Volunteer Fire Department for over 70 years, which he claimed was one of his passions. He served through the Line Officer ranks as well as President and Financial Secretary. He also held the position of Secretary to the Ossining Fire Department Board of Fire Commissioners for twenty-five years. In addition, he was a member of the Firemen’s Association of the State Of New York and the Westchester Volunteer Firemen’s Association. He was a member of the Ossining United Methodist Church and a past Master of Westchester Lodge 180 Free and Accepted Masons.

Rod was always re-counting incredible stories of his early childhood in Ossining and memories of his dad’s accomplishments as Head Chef at the Sleepy Hollow Country Club and Briarcliff Lodge. He was a great collector of historical items and valued passing on his family’s heritage to future generations. Rod had a “wanderlust” spirit, which led him and Priscilla to regularly enjoy their timeshare in Aruba, venture on multiple cruises, and explore many Caribbean Islands, always making new friends along the way. When not traveling, they enjoyed either hosting or visiting friends and family.

He is survived by his loving and caring wife Priscilla, daughter Michele La Croix of Texas, sons Darryl (wife Michele) of South Berwick, ME, and Jeffrey (wife Kassondra) of Port Richey, FL, six grandchildren Daniel, Christopher (wife Sarah), Stephanie (husband Jaylan Archer), Isaac (wife Ruth), Caleb, and Shannyn; five great-grandchildren, and a sister, Jacqueline (Scott) Fagin of Chocowinity, NC. He was predeceased by his parents, sister, Phyllis Fuller, and brother, Maurice C. J. La Croix.

Rod will be buried at the Gerald B. H. Solomon National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY.
