Obituary

Gerard "Jerry" Ernest Rambach of Saranac, NY passed away October 25, 2026 at Glens Falls Hospital.

Jerry was a warm, intelligent, and fun-loving man whose greatest joy was his family. He built his life with his hands and his heart, baking bread and pastries, working alongside his beloved wife, Joan, of sixty-nine years, and cheering faithfully for his New York Giants and Mets, while creating lasting memories with the people he loved. Proud of his family, devoted to his work, and always ready to enjoy life. Jerry leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, loyalty, and kindness.

Growing up, Jerry moved between New Jersey and upstate New York, developing a love for the country life on the farm. Baking was part of his family heritage. His father owned a bakery and passed down his baking skills to Jerry, who became an excellent baker in his own right.

It was at his father's bakery in Wayne, New Jersey, that Jerry met Joan, the woman who would become his wife. They married not long afterward and began building a life together. After working for his father, Jerry and Joan purchased their first bakery, beginning a journey that would shape much of their lives.

Years later, Jerry decided it was time to leave New Jersey behind and make their summer home in Saranac, New York, their permanent home. Shortly afterward, he opened a bakery in Plattsburgh, where he and Joan worked side by side for many years, building a business and becoming part of the community.

After settling in Saranac, Jerry and Joan discovered a shared love of boating on Lake Champlain. The lake became a special part of their life together, calling it "God's Country." It offered them time to enjoy the water, the beauty of the North Country, and the simple pleasure of being together.

Anyone who knew Jerry knows he loved Frank Sinatra and the big band orchestras. Jerry enjoyed listening to music and dancing with Joan.

Jerry's love of sports was another defining part of his life. A devoted New York Giants fan, he held season tickets, went to Giants games for more than fifty years, and made it to two Super Bowls, a testament to his unwavering loyalty to his team. He was also an avid Mets fan and took great pleasure in following his favorite teams.

Rambach's Bakery continues today under the ownership of April, one of Jerry's former employees, carrying on a legacy that meant so much to him.

One of the most meaningful measures of Jerry's life was the impact he had on the people who worked for him. Even fifty years later, former employees reached out to tell him how much their first job with him had influenced their lives. These heartfelt connections were a testament to the lasting impression he made on others, both as an employer and as a person.

Above all, Jerry was a devoted family man. He cherished his family, enjoyed life, and brought his own special spirit to the people around him. Whether baking, boating on Lake Champlain with Joan, snowmobiling and horseback riding with his kids Suzan, Cyndie, and Ken, or cheering on his beloved Giants and Mets, Jerry embraced the things he loved and the people who made his life special.

Jerry is preceded by his parents, Gerard and Carolyn Rambach. Jerry is survived by his beloved wife, Joan Rambach; his children, Suzan Shockley of Manchester, NH, Cyndie Wade of Queensbury, NY, and Ken Rambach of Saranac, NY; his daughter-in-law, Karen Rambach; his son-in-law, Robert Shockley; close family friend, Robert Nowakowski; his brothers, Glenn Rambach and Gil Rambach; his cousin, Claire Odell; his grandchildren, Jesse Wade, Justin Shockley, Victoria Wood, and Kelsey Rambach; and his great-granddaughter, Merrit Wade.
